Bah, I do it every time I find a new favorite anime character (though 'sex' doesn't factor into it for me - they're not real).

That's the main problem - if you wish an anime character were real, then you'd be wishing to have your idol turn into something you despise. One of the reasons some fans get obsessed over characters is because they aren't real and don't have all the drawbacks of a real-life crush. You don't see him/her pass you and ignore you on the street (or in the hall for the kiddies), you don't have to worry about bad breath (no smell unless your vcr is overheating), you can shut them up any time you want (mute button anyone?), you can make them do anything you want because they have no minds of their own (imagination rules with dream loves).

No rejection, and someone who can be everything you've ever wanted - because s/he *isn't* real. If these obsessed people *really* wanted a real life boy/girlfriend, then they'd get one. They want a dream - perfect person. They just think they want him/her to be real. If it ever happened they'd have to find another untouchable imagination-turned perfect person to focus on instead.

There are, incidentally, chicks in Japan who dress up like anime characters and pose on their webcams in these weird bodysuits. Now, that is character obsession.

BTW I was only half serious with my four-way remark; I do have a crush on Robin though. I just like her.

This guy though who's obsessed with Inuyasha has taken it too far though. He needs a real-life girl. Or guy. Or whatever.

Of course, this is only until the get OUT of the camp. Then Berelain will go back to her old ways, and Faile can finally off that bitch.

I wouldn't be so sure there *is* a guy - sounds like the old "um..I have this friend who..." fabrications.

My question is if the person really does what s/he says this 'guy' does, or if it's an excuse to talk about a potentially hot subject.

Yeah, but he says it ain't him so with have to go along with that, for the sake of the argument.

Any excuse to talk about a hot subject can't be all that bad.

All that I can say is I hope I never base my real life relationships on most of the characters I tend to go into 'fangurl' mode over. oO

hmm...wishing inuyasha was real...I suppose that could catagorized as insane. The definition of insane ( in a nutshell) is not being able to distinguish between right and wrong, doing something impulsively with out forseeing possible consequences.

this situation fits the second part of the deifnition. Like Arigatomyna said, wishing Inuyasha was real would have all the draw backs of an actual crush. This person probably didn't think things through when he said this. The person themselves probably isn't insane, but the concept of wishing Inuyasha was real is.
Besides if he was real then his his bad qualities would atand out more (and no fan girl/boy wants that).
