the only reason i donated...
i'd feel like an asshole uploading to a server and not trying to give at least a little bit to help pay for the bandwidth my videos consume(which isnt much but thats not the point).
i think it should be a rule, that if you complain about the waiting period, all of the people with a video that has more than 5000 dls gets to kick, the person that complained, in the crotch.

To go with an old saying:
"If you think you could do better, than go ahead and do so".
Just make sure you consider the logistics first. Can you, without requesting money from other people, download and store every Local video in this catalog? You'd have to be pretty fucking rich in the first place to pay for the disk space needed to hold the contents of this site, nevermind the computing power and bandwidth to continually upload hundreds (maybe thousands) of 20-100 MB files each day on demand to anyone with enough interest and patience to wait two weeks and read the labels of three buttons.
What do you know about server administration? Database design and management? A web application on the scale of this site would normally be assigned to a team of several developers, each making 60K a year over a period of several months, and be allotted several thousand more a year in a corporate budget for continual support and maintainence. This one was done by volunteers, for us.
I've heard people complaining about donation requests from all sorts of wonderful online organizations such as deviantART, Tek-Tips, and (of course) this site, the a-m-v.org. You should be happy. You should be happy that the service exists in the first place, that someone actually cared enough to provide communities where we can express ourselves, amuse ourselves, help each other, and learn something in the process. You should be happy that when you come to this site you don't find three quarters of your screen covered by pop-up windows and gaudy flashing advertizements for the next solution to reducing the size of your giant loan payments and increasing the size of your tiny dick.
Nags are an old concept - just think of those Salvation-Army bell ringers. This site is more like a street musician with a sign and an open guitar case - free entertainment that you may or may not be inclined or able to help support. Please tell me you don't complain about the Salvation Army and street musicians.
If anything you should at least gain an appreciation for what is involved. Most people would have and continue to have to idea what the cost and value of the service these free websites is if it wasn't spread out in front of their nozes every few minutes. You don't have to support it, but you might as well appreciate or at least tolerate it, considering all that IS given to you on a silver plate.

this is a sweet sit/setup but i was thinking (this is kind of off topic) why don't you set aside some space for ads. i'm not saying lets do popups up the wazoo but just like 2 margin ads that change like you top banner i bet you could get alot of companies like adv and pinoneer to ad at a site like this one i mean hell we have nearly 200000 members here.
i men even animes showen on tv use ads to pay for them self i don't think it would be wrong for you to do the same.... and thats my 2 cents

you have to wait for a week or two until you can download... trust me, its worth the trouble to click on the [proceed] button for it (unless ofcourse your using a slooow connection that will take forever to load).asdfasdfasdfadsf wrote:But then I find out I can't even download the file I came for. Really... what the Hell is the deal?
