Need to start somewhere...

Post by RCChambers78 » Wed Apr 07, 2004 6:16 pm

Hi I'm Robert...I'm new here. In the last month I finally got my own computer I've trying to get since high school). Before i got it I was in the process begining a few 'videos' using 2 vcrs *pauses to watch for incoming tomatoes*. After seeing some videos here and reading the 'guide' for the "2 vcr method" I decided to get some info on using my 'new' computer.
Problem is since I just got a computer I know nothing making videos on/with it. So I need a lot of help. I don't know if my computer has anything in it to use for video editing. I don't know how to get footage from my games, tapes or dvd (I took a look at a couple of posts......and got completly lost). I don't what software to look for (keep in mind it took me this long to get a computer so i'm looking for a 'reasonable' price).
I don't know......everything, or for that matter anything you do.
...
...So i need guidence, i need help in SIMPLE terms.
Please. I have a few ideas in my head I want to get out. Some stuff thats been in my head since I got out of high school....in 98 (yes that long).
Thank you for your time and your tomatoes.

I recommend this software for beginners, I'm one myself.

FreeRIP
bum told me about this one and it's really good for ripping songs off cds.

AMVapp
Err...it's located here, can't remember the link. But it's got a lot of handy stuff.

Windows Movie Maker
Not the best and people bad mouth it but it's good enough for starters. Located at your comp.

SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter
These are dvd rippers, they copy the VOBS off your dvd to your HD. Use it only if you have no video capture card.

You'll have to google them though. I'm too lazy :P. Anyway the guides and stickys as someone else said are very helpful.
My comp is haywire!

I recommend them even if you do happen to have a video capture card.

I'm not very good am I? I agree to Corran despite what I said :P. I tried without ripping and the footage was dark. Sooo...yeah...jusr get SmartRipper, people seem to like it.

Thanks for the help.
Ok, first (this is going to sound REALLY dumb) but how do I know if I have a video capture card. *For all computer references, so you all know what I'm talking about, i have a Dell Demension 2400* Second, I found out after my first post that I do have a Windows movie maker but it dosen't tell me how to connect my dvd/vcr/camcorder to my comp so the maker can 'record' the footage. The only connection I could find (keep in mind I am NO computer geek, at best I am only a spaz, not a computer spaz just a spaz) for external hook-ups is a blue 'line-in' connection next to the green line-out for the speakers and a pink one for a mic. So now I have to find a 'point B' so i can I can connect A and C. Any idea WHAT EXACTLY I need to find? The Dell site was NO help and don't get me started with the f^@&$ at Circut City.
I'll check the links everyone gratefully provided and hope I can understand anything.
Are there any vids on the site using 'Windows MM' so I can see the horror of my future. Anyway I'm thinking of chamging my username to spaz but I think I'll get something shorter like bum. What do you think?
