Video achiving....

Post by Pwolf » Wed Apr 07, 2004 4:32 pm

just woundering what other creators do with their videos. i've been keeping huffyuv copies of every video i do since last year (Mitternacht), they are really big and would fill up a dvd-r pretty fast. so what do you guys do? would converting the huffyuv encodes to mpeg2 be better?
or should i buy more dvd-rs?

I just keep around high quality MPEG-2s or Xvids. I don't plan to ever go back and change anything on any of them... so I don't really care :|
I might start keeping project files and junk around just for the heck of it though pretty soon... who knows :|

Rename it "Windows Source Code", and post it with torrent links?

Seriously, it varies a lot from person to person. I'd say either buy more dvd-r's or store as MPEG2.

I keep one huffyuv per dvd-r along with the project files and source that I didn't rip from dvd such as mattes, images, avisynth scripts, and miscellaneous avi's. Then I label it whatever the project was and stick them in a binder for safekeeping. I doubt I'll ever use them again but it is nice to keep if I wanted to I could.

ahh that seems like a good idea. I like to keep a good HQ version around now just incase. I also keep all my project files. I think i'll just buy some more dvd-rs and keep my huffyuvs. thanks for the feed back everyone.

BEST IDEA EVER.

Anyway, I do pretty much what Zarxrax does. I'll keep the uncompressed master file around for a while, but I'll eventually replace that with a high quality MPEG-2.

Well, to be terriably honest, I've never really thought much about my videos, therefore havnt kept any backups of them.

The only backup I have is of To Treasure (And that's only cause I have two copies I burnt one for marytza and one for myself).

My next video I'll probably backup because I love the project so much, but thats pretty much it.

Can't encode worth a damn, so I keep the project files, plus any other random things that went into it (stills, credit slides, whatever). I always work with full vobs, so theoretically I can resurrect a project if I need to re-encode it.

Certain projects I backup on cd if I know I'll have to reformat or get a new computer.

Dragon Bebop Z took me 15 cds to backup
The Haunted Ship took 25

Now that I got a dvd burner, it usually takes me 1-2 dvds to backup a large project.

Nowadays I only keep the mpeg2 of videos like my NES/RVG stuff.
