1. HMV doesn't have a great selection in anime, I usually find the section somewhere near the sci-fi section of the dvd section.
2. Musicworld is better and cheaper, go lookie and see if you have that store in the UK if you're looking in a mall for anime.
3. That guy was being a lazy dumbass, you should have complained to his manager or threatened to, that probably would have made him go check. I mean geez, you went in there with the intention of buying something....pffftt
