are there any fansubs for manga?

i know there are fan subs for anime's but what about manga?

Uhh If you mean illegal manga scans...yes. They float around.
Though looking for any and asking where to find them goes against the rules of this forum.

The proper term would be scanlations - most of which are only available for manga that hasn't been translated (licensed - like anime). They exist, you can find them - I am not permitted to say how, but I'm sure you can find scanlations if you know the name of the manga you're looking for. ^_^

Yes there are. They are called scripts and scanlations.

I don't really like scanlations because they are just scans of raw japanese manga with the original dialogue airbrushed out and with translated dialogue inserted. It's a pain in the ass because (a) it takes hard drive space better used for AMVs (or what have you); (b) you need electricity to read the manga, unless you print it out - and the quality of anything printed out of just about any printer sucks; (c) that's is what Tokyopop, Viz etc. do for a living.

I like scripts better than scanlations. That way you can save money by buying the original manga if you know a store that sells 'em in Japanese (I do!). You can also get all the scripts you want, then buy as you find the original manga. The disadvantages are (a) the person doing it might not know Japanese all that well; (b) printing it out is practically mandatory - but do you really want all those papers lying about; (c) not all series have been translated and some have gaps in them or they don't translate every bit of dialogue (like one translation of Hana Yori Dango). Scripts also sometimes disappear from the web once a series is licensed. (like GTO - I don't need to buy Tokyopop vols 7 and 8 though

I've actually tried to do my own self-translation with a Japanese Word Processor (it has a built in dictionary) but it's a total pain in the ass to do this, because typing all those kanjis is very hard when you have to radical-search over and over and over (I'm not a Japanese speaker) I managed to do a very rough translation of the first chapter of an H-manga - only good enough to tell you the gist of the chapter.

I'm sad because there are no Sakura Diaries manga scripts... because the ending (vol. 20) is really confusing...there is a scanlation started...in French. I doubt Sakura Diaries will ever be licensed for a proper translation

I don't know if asking for script/scanlation links is forbidden here, though it probably is for licensed manga.

(a) The same can be said of fansubs.

(b) Well, the point is to NOT print it all out, just like you're not supposed to burn DVD's out of fansubs.

(c) At least in my opinion, there are many, MANY more quality mangas than there are quailty anime. Unfortunately there are also many LESS mangas than animes that are actually licensed for release in the US. I'd be more than happy to support these titles when they're licensed here, but sometimes the companies need a little boost in recognizing the fanbase. That's where scanslations come in.

I'm not trying to rant, but as I used to be a part of a scanslation team, I can definitely tell ya that there's much more to scanslations than just airbrushing.
