Seconded. Only exception is .mov-based vids (um...the few that exist), 'cause I'm Quicktime-stupid and don't know how to get it to fullscreen.

Otherwise, fullscreen. Always. A little compression doesn't bother me, since I'm used to watching my own test runs compressed anyway.

Of course in my case add on to the end there: "tune out the bitchy neighbors."

The only problem I have is there's a serious flaw in the perfection of AMV online distribution and encoding - some media players play back ALL videos, regardless of aspect ratio, at full screen, stretching it out, causing viewers to give you bad scores (because it's your problem as to which player they use). However, if you hard matte a letterbox, you get yelled at for not cropping it (because it matters THAT MUCH). So I just play the fuckin video, should I get a chance to see it.

With Media Player Classic you can watch .mov files fullscreen provided quicktime is installed.

I like to dim the lights too when it isn't filled with seizure inducing flashes.

If fullscreen produces a noticable quality difference than windowed it may help to sit further away from the computer screen.

But why go fullscreen in the first place then?

Because it blocks out the distracting programs/desktop in the background.

I think that since more and more people are following the guides and actually getting good quality full screen. Seriously, take a look at some of the older videos... tiny little sizes.. huge chunky blocks...
Nowadays, just crank up the volume and grab a Bid-Weather.

I watched one two days ago, that I swear had better visual quality than the laputa DVD release.

So to actually answer: Full screen if it is done right... windowed otherwise.

I used to watch amvs in the size they came with (maybe x2 for the really small 160x120 vids). My old computer would freeze at fullscreen with amvs, so I thought that was just the way they were watched. It wasn't until I read in a vid description that "looks best at fullscreen" - that I tried maximizing it in my new comp. I never went back. ^_^;

I still remember the first time I watched one of Zarxrax's vids at fullscreen on my new comp - I had missed half the jokes because I just plain couldn't *see* them without it being fullscreen. It's much nicer not having to sit right on top of my computer to see a video.

Full screen (which is why Im always forgiving on the video quality score as it has to blow up to fit my 1600x1200 resolution).
