A funny example would be Wonka's Holy Leeping Ninjas video made almost two years ago. He used Aerials by System of a Down and was the first to use it on this site. Recently he got a review from someone who gave him a 6 for originality because the song is overused.
Do people take the date an AMV was created into account?

I always try to judge something in relation to the time it was made. It just feels right to me. The same way to don't watch a movie from the 40's and say "WHAT THE FUCK WHERES MY COLOR".

As far as compression is concered, yes I take that as a factor for a videos age. Back when MPEG-1 was the best you could get I'm not going to write an opinion chewing the creator out for not using MPEG-4. Outside of that, the experience of the creator, if this is someones first video and they make a newbie mistake I'll let them know and let it slide. If it's an AMV veteran I'm going to be much more harsh when they make a mistake because they should already know not to do whatever it is they did (IVTC and deinterlacing is a good example.)

So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

So you would take a relatively recent movie that was shot in black and white like Clerks and say "WTF?!?!? WHERES MY COLOR"?Beowulf wrote:I always try to judge something in relation to the time it was made. It just feels right to me. I guess he'd take Clerks in the same way he'd take Playground Love by Nightowl. Deliberately "primitive" looking for artistic effect.BogoSort wrote:So you would take a relatively recent movie that was shot in black and white like Clerks and say "WTF?!?!? It's hysterical laughter filled the darkness, and nightmares danced to It's melody.

Well, it should make a difference, but at the same time, an older video should have the same chance of being just as good as a newer one even without the fancy editing tools we now have....
Actually, for AnimeEvolution in August, I want to take a poll of selected creators for the top 60 videos of all time to be played in coundown order in the AMV room over the weekend... BUT, I don't wan't to see is vodei from just the past year or so only.. I think there are quite a few older videos that should be on that list... Well, more on that in the next while

That's a cool idea, but it would be tough to do since fewer people have seen the older videos. I'd hazard to say a majority of people have gotten into AMVs in the last few years, and they would mainly know the videos that have been popular more recently.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:...
