Grainy/Old Footage Effect

Post by )v(ajin Koji » Sat Mar 20, 2004 5:02 pm

How would I go about creating a grainy effect (like the scene where shinji is a child in EoE building the pyramid) the or old looking video footage effect: such as you would see from a projector.

Thank you. :¬ ]

It depends on the program you're using. For wmm 2.0 you just apply the 'old age' film effect (there are 3 settings to choose from). With ShowBiz you can either use the noise effect, or one of the 'video TV' effects (there are about 6, one will get you the old television type lines, another gets the fuzz similar to wmm's film fuzz effect, and the others are variations on this sort of effect).

If you're using Premiere, do a search of this section (or video software) - I know someone explained how to apply the film fuzz effect in Premier not too long ago. If you're using something else, I have no idea.

I'm pretty sure Premiere 6.5 still has the QuickTime Effects included (unlike Premiere Pro... )... there should be a Film Effects effect in there.

You can also try using your HSV controls, to get that desaturated look of old film, and add a light noise filter.

Once you get the look you're going for you should be able to copy those attributes to your other clips that you want to match.

Why are there no temporal sharpening filters in Vdub/Ppro/AVIsynth/anything else?
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.
