Basically what I'm trying to point out about your arguement trythill, is a point that you make yourself. Just one program isn't enough. You need a whole range of programs to accomplish different things. What you state, is that it DOES NOT MATTER what software you use, though you just contradicted yourself by saying that it does matter.
Perhaps you're right. I probably shouldn't say "it doesn't matter", as the broadest meaning of the word does not apply here. What I should say is "you have many alternatives, and you should investigate them all before you believe that you need [some software package]". It's not quite as concise, but it is more precise.
I just do not believe in "you need [this program] to do [task]", having accomplished [task] with [some other program or programs] just about every time that sentence was uttered.
