watching AMV's without a computer?

hey everyone, i just started downloading amv's like crazy and my girlfriend doesn't have a computer but likes to watch them too. is there a way to put them on cd and read on a dvd player or must it be on dvd? in any case, can someone tell me how to burn the videos so they are playable on regular dvd players?

Good question. I burned a bunch of my vids to CD for a friend and she took them home and played them on her television. Now, the divx vids wouldn't play, and she had some trouble with one of the xvid files, but all of the mpg vids played just fine. I don't know if she had a special dvd player (maybe a PS2) or if mpg is normally compatible. All I know is it's the first I've heard of watching a amvs burned to a cd instead of a dvd - and mpg1's at that. I thought you had to do a dvd with mpeg2.

Still, my computer is bigger than my television, so I'm not going to try it out to see if it works in my dvd player. ^_^;;;

you can make a video cd (which i believe is one of the mpeg formats). it would be playable on just about any dvd player. try googling for it.

Untrue! www.dvdrhelp.com has a very comprehensive list of set-top DVD player and what they will/won't play. I know several DVD players (mine at home included) that can't handle VCDs.

This is how one can make an (S)VCD under Linux and

I've had success in making them, but I still have to learn

vid cds wont work in a ps2 due to the copyprotection(it'll work if you have a modchip)

if you have nero you can burn the vids to a video cd, and it should work in most dvd players(some older dvd players wont play videocds though)

nero would probably be the best way to go though(just make sure the videos have a standard audio codec, as it may come up garbled or have no audio at all)

TMPGenc has default profiles set up for making VCD and SVCD compliant mpegs, Nero and most CD writing software has the ability to write VCDs (some versions of Nero can also do the converting but the quality isn't as good). Though you will have a lot of trouble is you are converting RM or WMV streams.
