Yet Another CLR Vid Released!

Once again, another CLR AMV has been released! It can be found here:

Please feel free to check it out and leave any comments, comments are ALWAYS welcomed and loved, good or bad ^_~ It's another perfect blue video, but this time it's to "Bring Me to Life". Many have said it's not what they would expect from this song, but anyone who has seen it either walks away fond of it or baffled and not sure what to think, but later come back and watch it several more times before they truly understand all aspects of it, and they end up liking it ^_^

OK, here we go:

I watched both your videos because I was curious to know
what you did with Perfect Blue. I'll comment first a bit on your
"Lies" video, but I'll refer a bit to both as they are very similar
in style/theme/anime/music...

Visually I think the video it quite good, the pacing felt very
quick but it all works out nicely. I think I more or less
understand the story you are trying to tell, but again, people
like myself who haven't heard "Lies" (maybe I'm the only
one? :) hardly understand a word and a lot is lost. That's
not to say I won't look for the lyrics and rewatch the video
a few more times, but my favourite vids have always
created a huge impression from the get-go and that's
usually due to a shrewd choice of lyrics which are both
appropriate (as were yours), and understandable (as yours
were not :). Still, they povide a good atmosphere, so it's
a minor observation. However, I really, really think you
should reconsider using every transition your software
provides. They actually become distracting, the AMV would
improve if you just used cuts and fades. You should only
put in a fancy one if it somehow relates to the lyrics, but
otherwise less is more. The ending is a bit abrupt, too,
sometimes a longer coda, even if it's silent, serves for
things to sink in...

"Bring" is another very dynamic AMV, I actually do like
your style of editing. The lyrics are clearer, and the timings
are pretty good (a few misses here and there, but in general
they're good on both videos). Aside from the crazy transitions,
the other problem I noted was the lip-synching. In general
I'm not keen of it because I feel it's an unfair trap of sorts:
it's extremely hard to pull off well, the gain is minuscule,
and even if it goes just slightly awry it has a noticeable
impact on the perception of the AMV. My suggestion is
to just forget about lip-synching unless you are absolutely
positive it's perfect (ref. Urban Ragnarok -- and even then
in extremely moderate quantities). I wondered a bit why
you use fade-to-white almost exclusively -- nothing wrong
with that, but maybe a bit of variety helps here, as in the
first "save me from the nothing I've become", where you
chose a scene of Mima throwing a pillow at her alter ego...
it felt more appropriate to transition with a fade-to-black
here... but this is already an artistic decision and to each
his/her own.

Anyway, I don't want to sound too harsh, these are keepers
for me, thanks for making them!

Im glad u were able to get the correct version of DivX or whatever u used so u cud finally watch em ^_^

You're not being harsh at all, i appreciate all comments i get on my amvs, good or bad. In this case, it was a very good, very helpful one. Yes, i did try to do some lip syncing, but thats in obvious places... othertimes i didnt try to, it just worked out lookin like i had. (ie, in the beginning of "bring" where it saiz "how can you see into my eyes", i didnt mean for her to look like she was singing. and the part where it was "save me from the nothing i've become", i didnt mean for her to be singing there either. It just worked out that way and it looked decent IMO so i kept it ^_~)

Yes, they were very similar in theme and I used a lot of the same scenes. Understand, though, after i made the "lies" one and posted it, i realized i could re-make it better using "bring me to life". I think they both turned out pretty good and im glad you understood em ^_^

As far as fading goes.... ohh boy. After i posted em, a lot of the transitions i had put in there, i thought i took out, but proved to be NOT true after i watched them again. I think i will correct those someday, and i understand i may have went WAY too bold with them ^_^ I think i hardly ever faded to white in the song though, that was all there in the scene's i captured, but i understand where you're coming from
