Nope- he had Photoshop open for that. Well, OK- it was originally opened up to try and make a gradient, but he forgot how, and just kept it open and used it to type to the audience.flint_the_dwarf wrote:I thought he was just writing in Premiere using "Add title."godix wrote:The time spent writing to us in photoshop didn't help either I imagine.

Typically, the people who say "I worked for 3 months on this video" roughly translates into "I worked on it for a bit, but I put it away for two and a half months and never looked at it. the rest of the time, I worked on it for 20 minutes a day."
One of my best videos I did took me about 12 hours total, and I did it all in one go.
Conversely, I made another one of my best AMV's working on it for a total of 2 1/2 hours every sat and sun for a total of five hours a weekend for three weekends. (my computer died, and I made the AMV on a friend's computer)
The total time would probably boil down to about 18 to 30 hours, tops.
No need to put a counter like that here. We all know.

*Ahem* I did not forget how to make a gradient in Photoshop. I wasn't that drunk...yetAshyukun wrote:Nope- he had Photoshop open for that. Basically I had a really stupid idea of making a simple rectangular mask in Photoshop and have some of my (badly-done) lip-syncs in them. I scrapped the idea, but kept Photoshop open since I figured I'd need it.
I was wrong...well other than pure entertainment purposes
Not exactly. I guess this isn't relevant to me since I put "hours" vs. "Days" or "Months," but when I say I worked "100 hours in two weeks" that usually means I worked on it every day. I generally edit two or three hours a night during crunch times like now (summer cons are upon us).Nestorath69 wrote:Typically, the people who say "I worked for 3 months on this video" roughly translates into "I worked on it for a bit, but I put it away for two and a half months and never looked at it. the rest of the time, I worked on it for 20 minutes a day."
Regardless I still agree that there are too many holes in the implementation of this, as well as loopholes.

Heh, you know I didn't count. ^_^;; I could barely remember what day it was, let alone what time it was when I started. But I guess it would be more - I just don't remember what day I started it on. If I figured it up, I'd have to take 4pm to 8am and multiply it by 10 and then add in the weekends from 4pm Friday to 8am Monday (subtracting 5 hrs per weekend) and multiply that number by two. The final number I'd be subtracting at least 2 hrs per weekday since I know I had over 9 hrs sleep the first week, and a few hours the other night so that would have to be deducted.flint_the_dwarf wrote:Is that all? I figured you were in the 300 area by now... o.o
Egh. I think it's a big hassel to have to count up how many hours of 'pure editing time' is spent on a vid. If I did, I'd just feel bad about losing all that time, or not having spread it out into 'months' instead. Make a hobby into a chore and it's no fun.

Sure people could lie, but we'd hope that most people wouldn't! Ofcourse you'd a disclaimer that said "put how long you ACTUALLY worked on the video" something like that. Maybe even a little calculator that people input how many hours they worked on it per day x the number of days worked on it...
Something like that mebbe. I find it interesting how long people work on a video, as well as using it as a filter tool. Having an actual entry for the database and allowing an actual field for people to fill out will make more people place that information in the database.
As I said before, sure you may have made a GREAT AMV in tweleve hours. But what if it was made with DBZ. I am rarely ever going to watch a DBZ video or a linkin park video. I can just search for anime/music I like. Maybe I'll miss some good videos this way, who knows. But we don't force everyone to see look through EVERY AMV in the database, adding a new filter option I think would be a good idea. But! There is the problem that all the current videos entered do not have this information in them and we'd have 28,000+ videos w/ "Creation time: 0hrs". So maybe it's not feasible, but it's not silly either...

What if I count in down time? ^_^ I never have time to sit and do it all in one sitting...how many hours are in a month? So if I say it took me 720 hours to make my video, will you watch it and then curse my soul for tricking you into watching my crappy video that was made in 5 working hours?
I think it wouldn't be a bad feature to add. It probably would be at the very bottom of Phade's to-do list though.

You would enter net hours, not gross hours. ;o I think it'd be great. Even the current system, people still type in lik Evanjelion instead of Evangelion or System of a Down - Angels Deserve to Die instead of Chopsuey(probably mispelling).
I just thought it would be interesting as new meta-data for the AMVs, a filter tool and hell you could even do analyse the database and see if greater time equaled a better amv ;o
But mehhhhhhh, you all are h8trs ;_;!

Actually I always thought it meant "I started with no clue how to do this and ended up deleting 90% of my effort because it sucked. Eventually I kinda sorta figured out what I was doing, at least enough to let other people see it without feeling totally humiliated. If I redid this video from scratch it'd take me about a week now that I've learned something." At least that's what I mean when I put down that I worked on one for 120 hours or whatever.Nestorath69 wrote:Typically, the people who say "I worked for 3 months on this video" roughly translates into "I worked on it for a bit, but I put it away for two and a half months and never looked at it. the rest of the time, I worked on it for 20 minutes a day."

For me, it means "On the days I worked on it, I worked on it for a few hours straight, but those days were few and far between."godix wrote:Actually I always thought it meant "I started with no clue how to do this and ended up deleting 90% of my effort because it sucked. I'm so bad at actually sitting down, opening Premiere, and getting started; but once I get started, I sometimes have trouble stopping.
