Let's not forget Daicon IV, which, if I remember correctly from that one Eva screenshot (the one that was SUPPOSED to be a report on Second Impact but, if you bothered to read it, was actually the history of GAINAX), is even older than 20 years.bote wrote:Wasn't the first some Gundam one that actually had an 20 year anniversary recently?Declan_Vee wrote:All records of "The First" have been destroyed. In my op I think some creators have focused more on timing of special effects and the rythm of the music. Than following the lyrics and the rythm of the music at the same time or a mix of both if not possible to do both at once. Sometimes you'll run into a song that has a beat but yet it would cut off the lyrics and so on. But what I'm trying to say is digital effects aren't bad it is just quanity and how you use them. You could have the best digital effects and be timed out perfectly but still have no good plot behind your video.

But has anyone noticed the perpetual slump AMV's have been in for the last 2 years. I mean if you compare the quality and amount and really the overall fun of the AMVs that came out 2 years ago and the one's out now its absolutely ridiculous. Im not trying to say that the talents of the AMVs out now are lower or anything, i acually think they are much more in depth as far as editing goes and the creators are amazing. My hat goes off to all of them. But i mean for godsakes, "This is DBZ life"(which is prob my fav video ever) has been in the top ten for like 2 years. Where are the new video's. Is it a lack of anime out there right now? Maybe. I dont know. And anothing thing. This is just my opinion but i am sick and tired of AMV love songs. I think the best two combo's (excluding such greats euphoria which is an editing masterpiece and you know the others that go along with it) are Anime and either rock or operatic ballad. Im tired of seeing little girls in skirts up to there crotches crying over and over and over again. Im saying it now, SAILOR MOON AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT GET OUT ENOUGH OR PEDOPHILES. You can look at it whatever way you want to, artisitcally, comedically, whatever. Its still drawings of little girls and boys. Japanese culture is like that and they admit it. Fine then but not me.
Im lost my train of thought
Oh yeah AMV's. So in closing i just wanted to know what you guys thought for the droughts of good ol hardcore, beatin people up to rock music videos went to. Later
Ok asshole Lets see you are going to crack on sailor moon videos but you like dbz ones. How many fucking dbz vids are there anybody who does another freaking dbz linkin park video should be hanged by their balls? I can't stand animes where People just beat each other up while barking out super combo moves they are retarded. I hate to say it but even though I am not a fan Sailor moon is a billion times better than Dbz!
You want good videos check out mexican juniors jesus.

As far as an amv slump no BUT alot more people are making them now and the standards have dropped. I have never seen such a plephora of totally crappy videos made with crappy quality. I blame this on windows media maker any hoo plenty of great videos are coming out too.

I think I've argued this with this line before:
It's funny, this same thing happened to Anime in general, it just blew up.
Back in the day, it was more difficult to edit videos -Lack of easily accessible sources, lack of hardware, lack of contests- and there were fewer being seen at contests and being distributed online. Nowadays it's all about 'everybody has access', there's a market flood as it were, literally anybody *can* make music videos. There were plenty of bad ones five and ten years ago, but nobody saw them because there were only like five or eight contests a year and virtually zero online distribution, so of course the only old ones we remember are the good ones. Nowadays it's everywhere, there's dozens of contests at cons and online, everybody has net distribution available to them, so there's a flood of mediocre videos. The Gems are still just as good, if not lots better, than they were years ago, it's just that expectations are higher and supply is higher. I remember sitting in contests in 98 thinking 'When will these Mediocre Oh My Goddess and Ranma Videos END!?'
Same thing with Anime in general. Used to be that only the really good stuff got sent over, now it's big business and it's a flood and the gems aren't as easily visible or memorable initially as they seemed to be ten years ago. But I'll tell you what, for every one good domestic Anime release you can name from the days of the 'Big Four', I'll name you a dozen bad or mediocre ones that nobody remembers.
