star rating
i dont think we should be forcing members to put rate by stars when they download amvs... why?... because sometimes they just want to get over it by just doing it randomly.. sometimes, if they downloaded a lot of videos and forget which one is which, they also just do it randomly... probably go, "ummmm.. i dont remember this one so i'll give it 1 star" or.. "im a really nice person today so i'll give all the crappy videos 5"...you get the point. im not saying that everyone is like that. im just saying that there should be an option if they want to star rate it or not. ...only dedicated raters should rate it...

Well, there's no reason not to have it, really. Some people are honest about the scores, some aren't. But once a video gets over 100 star ratings, it's generally accurate. I think it works to soem extent, although I see few videos with less than around a 3.0 rating. There's no reason to get rid of it.

im never said anything about getting rid of it
, did i?.. im just saying that we should give the downloader an option if he wants to star rate it or not. maybe add an option in the 1,2,3,4,5 ratings.. like.. 1,2,3,4,5,n/a ...get what im saying?.. or let the downloader pick an option asking if he wants to rate the vid or he doesnt want to rate the vid.

But there's nothing wrong with how it works now, because it does average out after a certain number of votes. If you allow people to choose whether they want to rate or not, a lot of people simply won't rate it because they're lazy. Same thing with leaving ops. But a lot of people do rate honestly even if they are lazy, because they have to.

Absolutely the only time I'm unwilling to give a star is if I can't play what I downloaded (which has happened all of once that I can recall). It takes two clicks of the mouse and waiting for a page to load up, how hard is this to do? Especially considering there are many creators not known enough to get tons of hits/downloads/ops so we need required star ratings to get any sort of mass feedback.

There is somethign wrong with how it works now. I have two-three videos waiting star ratings, and I haven't given them any because I can't play the videos. some're .mov files, and I can't get them to play. How am I supposed to rate waht I can't see?flint_the_dwarf wrote:But there's nothing wrong with how it works now

Hmmm, I like the idea of having a 5,4,3,2,1,n/a rating. It would still force people to vote, but if for some reason you couldn't watch the video, or you don't think you can give an accurate rating for some reason or other, you could select n/a.
There has been talk about how a lot of people just go through and rate all the videos 3 or something, because they are supposedly too lazy to actually think of an appropriate rating. While I don't quite understand how one could be that lazy, as it only takes me maybe 1 second to decide on a rating after I have watched a video, I will accept that there are people that are indeed too lazy.
Phade has said that this will help be rectified when the video recommendation system is in place, as the people that dont rate correctly will get crappy recommendations. This is good because it punnishes the person that rates the videos.
HOWEVER, when someone rates incorrectly, it's not only hurting them, but it is also hurting the video that they rate incorrectly. By implementing an n/a rating, they could select this and NOT hurt the video they are rating.

Yeah, that's a good idea. More than once I've had to give an AMV a star rating when i didnt even watch it. :¬ \Zarxrax wrote:Hmmm, I like the idea of having a 5,4,3,2,1,n/a rating.
