The most disappointing dub to me is Escaflowne. They got a lot of he lines wrong, said all thewrong things at he wrong time and a voice or two bothers me.

my ears were bleeding wen i watched the dub at animania, it was wrong
Actually for a dub, I didn't think it was too badly. Though I'd MUCH rather and do watch it in Japanese...Kyo and Tohru are just much better that way.

I honestly however, prefer the dubbed intro and endings though. They just sound so blase in Japanese.

I've never heard the English versions, but I currently consider the Fruits Basket opener to be the slowest, most boring anime opening theme I've ever heard.

But not the most annoying. That goes to the opener for Spiral.

Fushigi Yuugi was also bad. Miaka killed the voice of Lain.

I think it's proven (I've never seen the EVA dub myself) that a few lines said in the dub are literally MORE accurate to the original Japanese than the subtitles. Obviously "baloney poney" has got to be one of the worst lines possible, but have you ever even sat down and watched an episode of (real) Yugioh or Dragonball Z in a serious manner? Regardless of how much you like the content of the shows, the dubs completely removed the meanings of the shows. Practically every single line in Dragonball Z (especailly the Freezer conflic and onward) is completely unlike what should have been said at that point. Thus, the show makes no sense. None of the aspects of a character's personality are carried over to the dub, and thuse none of the actions the characters take make sense. Before Freezer/Furiiza fires his energy ball to destroy planet Namek, in the dub he says something along the lines of "sometimes it's the smarter. not the stronger fighter who wins." and that right there RUINS Evil Lord Freezer's whole character, let alone all the other crap they have him say. Freezer would never admit that Son Goku is stronger than him. That is the entire point of the last few episodes of their battle. Even Freezer's last action was completely based on his warped view of reality and the confidence in the belief that Son Goku could never be anywhere near as powerful as him. When Freezer fired at Goku even when he was living off of power Goku had given him, that's because it had hit him that Goku truly was the stronger, and that everything he had beleived was wrong. If Freezer had accepted this little fact long ago completely calmly, that event wouldn't have occured. For a lot of people characters & coherency are two of the most important aspects of a show. DBZ's dub ruins both of those aspects without remorse.

The english openings and closings are a lot better, and I don't mind admitting that I find their cuteness enjoyable.

Also, Shigure's dub rocks.

For english versions i've seen Manga do a pretty bad job. Not just on the dubbing it self (although The Guyver has quite possibly the most atrocious dubbing ever performed), they've also done things like changed the original intro and put some crappy music that they had some guy do. Although this is on some stuff that they did a while ago, like The Guyver, Fist of the North Star, and Street Fighter II V.

For sheer dissapointment, I'd have to say Witch Hunter Robin. I was expecting much better where as for other things like Yu-Gi-Oh and DBZ, you can't really expect much at all.

For me there is no contest.

FLCL

I saw it on toonami (TV station plays mostly bad anime) late one night, and I thought "Sweet, they're playing FLCL" then Haruko started speaking and I literally fell to my kness. It was that bad.
