Lain/Pink Floyd - Goodbye Cruel World
The title should tell you what this is, but I just uploaded Pink Floyd's Goodbye Cruel World done to Serial Experiments Lain. Lain is not the focus of the video (in fact she appears in only one shot), instead I focused on the girl who commited suicide in the first few minutes of the first episode. Unlike some of my other videos this isn't full of special effects and it isn't a happy video. It's my first attempt at a serious video that I think works but constructive critism is, as always, appreciated.

Entirely stills. The only motion in the video is in the mask as the stills come up. I considered several different ways of doing lyric sync and all those used motion but in the end I decided the stills did a better job of building a sense of isolation and depression that the song called for.SarahtheBoring wrote:Since it's so short there's not much to say, but it's an interesting idea to use all stills. (Or mostly stills? Seemed like it.)
Now that's just odd. The only reason I do mpeg 2 instead of Xvid is for wider compatability. Maybe I should just give up and go xvid, even my own computer has an easier time playing those than mpgs.OtakuForLife wrote:Damn mpeg 2 codec my computer refuses to run it...

I had to use mplayer for MPEG-2... But it finally worked (maybe a bit slow...).
I like this vid. It's not very reviewable, but it's well done. And it's innovative. Actually I'm impressed.
Now please reencode it in MPEG-1, DivX or XVid...

Ah, so this is that all stills video you mentioned. Awesome. What's funny is that when I first saw this in Announcements, this song was stuck in my head. Weird, considering I haven't listened to The Wall for at least a month.
I'll get this once I get time. >_<

Thank you. I'm starting to play around with styles and while most of my attempts don't work I really liked how this one turned out. Although you're right that it isn't reviewable, I won't watch it that often and I made the damned thing. Now that I'm aware that MPEG2 is causing problems I'll probably re-encode it to XVid next week sometime.ambroise wrote:I like this vid. It's not very reviewable, but it's well done. Yeah. It's a totally different feel than yours but Delicate Beauty was quite instructive. For example, I learned not to try using grey text.flint_the_dwarf wrote:Ah, so this is that all stills video you mentioned
