I do care somewhat. I just don't care as much as some other editors. I certainly don't care enough to change what I want to do just to pander to someone else and I definately don't care enough to pimp my videos just to be popular. If someone downloads them and likes them, great. If not then oh well, that's not why I made the thing anyway. Regardless of that, I don't need ops to tell me if it's liked or not. While it's true the star ratings are gummed up by people who vote straight 3's or whatever, enough people vote honestly that they are useful in comparison. For example I know the typical person who viewed my videos considered them somewhat above average with the exception of the badger thing (which, incidently, I don't think is all that good either).
I don't understand that, so that's probably the problem.
It's not a matter of I don't value popularity but rather I value something else alot more. Originality is the greatest thing in any art form and original things are usually unpopular just due to the WTF factor.
Now that you know the effects are good, are you going to leave the org and stop sharing your videos?
Not at the moment, I still have some ideas to try. Once I think I've hit my plateau where I'm just rehashing things I've already done then I'll quit and find a new hobby.
If the viewer's opinions (like/dislike) don't matter, then they don't need to see the vids to begin with. Why not keep them private?
Because some people like them which is nice. Because I need more feedback than my friends 'it's ok' to improve. Because occasionally I can pass on what I learned to someone who's duplicating the same mistakes I did. Because I don't take myself or my creations seriously enough to worry about what others will think. Because I have a sadistic sense of humor which occasionally expresses itself in inflicting things like the badger video on people.
