Sounds like a familiar situation/remedy to me. ^_^

One thing that I also like about giving opinions, is when the creator responds to your opinion. It's nice to know that they actually read your it and respected it enough to give feedback on your opinion. But when people don't respond, it feels like you've wasted your time. All I would really like is a little: "Thanks for the opinion", or something, just so I now they read it.

The problem isn't the system.
The problem is people who don't know to use the system.
Well would you rather have a system with a few errors that works or a perfect system that not one person can use? You can't blame the people. The people aren't the ones who need to make this site a success.
What do you think a-m-v.org is? A community.
What is a community composed of? Its members.

Which entities control how well a community utilizes systems around them? The members.

The opinion system has worked for anybody who chooses to not leave quick little comments. It's obviously going to break down for people like you.

People who put thought into their opinions can contribute a lot of information -- maybe you should try reading comments from the higher-rated commentators. Word count, obviously, isn't a perfect metric, but it does bring to light a few good examples.

This is the reason I don't post to this forum. People here get offended and try to attack every little thing. First off, the opinion system sucks. Everyone knows that. I don't care if everyone wrote fucking novels on every single amv on this site. It still sucks. The low or high ratings make people may or may not download amvs they would have otherwise liked/not liked. Don't try to make it into you're an idiot and it works for us because it doesn't work for anyone. Maybe if you listened rather than just talked you'd know that plenty of people hate the opinion system. To quote one of my favorite bands, "Shut your mouth and open your eyes".

Oh and by the way, that reply was utterly retarded. You can't blame the members for anything that goes wrong because none of them have control over what happens to this site. The opinion system sucks and the only person to blame is phade.

The scenario you describe will happen with ANY system that relies on ratings. Let's get rid of the system!

...Hey, wait a minute, the opinion system isn't IMPOSED on us in any way. You can still download whatever the hell you want. Gee, I guess that means that opinions have no real bearing on what you find and don't find, right?

It's still up to you to decide what to watch, right?

Sheesh. That "it might turn people way" bullshit is the lamest thing I've ever heard.

Usually when a person sees a video and it has a 1.33 rating they will be a lot less willing to download it if it had a 10 rating. But I guess that's most people and you're above most people.

Hardly. When you run into a situation like that, that's when you ignore the opinion, read the description, read the other fields (yes, those DO exist), do a little mental juggling and decide if you're going to watch it or not.

Actually, ignore the opinion information outright. Pretend it doesn't exist.

There's a number of videos on my list that are not rated all that highly. (I think We Are The Children of God is something like a 6.5 overall.)

I still like them.

Why?

Because I don't let some damned ratings system determine what I'll like or not. This has been the battle cry of grade-school students* around the world. I'm surprised you're submitting to the Evil Will of the Number.

* At least your website says you're 17. Can't trust anything, though.

Let us all thank this random guy for teaching us how to use amv org and how to handle opinions. Thank you. You have enlightened us all.

I also find it disturbing that you care so much about this disagreement that you research who I am. x_x

One opinion out of many.

One must know one's enemy before one attacks.
I'm sure there's a better way to phrase that.
