VieWeR FRieNDLY?
my 2 weeks as a prisoner here have past and im starting to download watch a couple of AMVs... i pretty much watched any AMV that i can find.. like in top 30 or the best 10% (something like that).. i say they are really really good! all the effects and stuff!! they are awsome.. BUT some of them aint what i expected though... i was expecting them to be "viewer friendly"... coz, like, for example.. some of the videos are from animes i havnt seen yet and animes that i have no idea what the story is about, and im watching this AMV hoping that it can give me a little idea of what the anime would be like.. but noooo.. it didnt. it just showed a bunch of clips or a bunch of characters doing random things that didnt make any sense to me.. but for others that have seen the anime, it probably did... im not saying that all AMVs i have seen are like that... theres a few exceptions.... anyway, my first and only AMV for now is FF8. i havnt really played the game yet.. but, i had the idea how the story of the game goes so that i can put clips on my music video that made a short romantic summary of what happens in FF8... so my AMV is gonna be something that would be appreciated and understood by someone who has no idea about the game... i think this kinda deal is important in making AMVs. not just the effects that make it look good...
what do you guys think?

I think you have somewhat of a good point but you're mostly wrong. Your concept of "viewer friendly" is completely skewed. AMVs aren't *required* to be viewer friendly, because they come from the creator's minds and are for their edification only. Most editors make AMVs for themselves, and while it's cool when the audience digs it, it's not required or even necessary.LoST RaiNDRoP wrote:BUT some of them aint what i expected though... i was expecting them to be "viewer friendly"... coz, like, for example.. some of the videos are from animes i havnt seen yet and animes that i have no idea what the story is about, and im watching this AMV hoping that it can give me a little idea of what the anime would be like.. but noooo.. it didnt. it just showed a bunch of clips or a bunch of characters doing random things that didnt make any sense to me.. but for others that have seen the anime, it probably did... im not saying that all AMVs i have seen are like that... theres a few exceptions....

This hobby isn't about making the anime more accessable to those who watch the AMVs, but rather about being creative and artistic. It's about taking a show or a character and shaping it to whatever we, the AMV-maker, feel like turning it into. We can turn a serious show into a comedy, a comedy into something dramatic (ie Requiem for Excel), make characters sing and dance, whatever we want.
Furthermore, just because an AMV isn't "viewer friendly" (in YOUR definition) doesn't mean it can't intrigue people. I purchased RahXephon, Haibane Renmei, and Witch Hunter Robin because of three excelent AMVs: Rozard's Price to Fly, Vic's Charcoal Sketched Dreams, and Vic's Witch Hunter Robin Reloaded. None of them actually tell you what the story of the shows are, and WHRR goes so far as to turn WHR into a totally different story altogether. But because they were well-done, they got me interested in the series.
If you want an AMV that explains what the show is about, watch the trailers on the DVD. We're not here to promote the licencing companies, we're here to create whatever definition of 'art' we believe in.

It's true that AMV's don't need to be viewer-friendly, but I think that a mark of a truly great video is that both people who have seen the anime and people who haven't should really be able to enjoy. This usually means that the amv shouldn't depend on the storyline of the original anime, but rather create a storyline or direction of its own (though it may be similar or even identical to that of the original anime) that is easy to follow.
I try to keep my videos viewer-friendly, but if they're not, I include an explanation in the video comments.

well.. yea.. i agree with you both in some way... yea, its a hobby, its something you just like doing and doing it for the fun of youself... the AMV turs out really good that way... but like i said.. it wasnt what i was expecting. i like making stories using AMVs.. but sure, not everyone is the same. we all have different ways in making AMVs.. and hey! im not expecting it to be like stupid trailers! thats bull! ...im just saying that in my opinion that "some" of the AMVs needs a theme on it. and shows a little bit of whats going on in the particular anime... its ok if theres none. i mean, what i can i do about it? right?..
