Attention AMV Creators: Someone might be selling your AMVs!

Post by SephirothJenova » Sun Aug 25, 2002 11:55 pm

I was surfing on EBay.com and typed in the search for "Anime Music Videos." This is what I found:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 7803261</a>

It seems as though someone is selling AMVs that do not belong to them at all! Not selling, auctioning off! I know that the second AMV from the bottom is AtomX's In The End video! I find this truly disturbing. I think that we should all get together an spam this guy's e-mail to death. Let's just fill it all the way up! He should be taught a lesson the hard way!

I also propose the creation of the AMV Police! Any creator/fan that sees someone distributing videos of another creator should tell the AMV Police. They will then contact the creator and create a plan to deal with the problem.

"Do you want vengence, or a solution? This is something bigger than either of us have ever faced." ~ Xanatos

Proposal: At one of the larger cons - hey, AWA is coming up - someone draft up a form thingy, gather signatures and some contact info (real info, e-mail addresses don't count) of AMV Creators and send this off to EBay. Explain clearly that we are the only ones that really know what these things are about (because we make them) and that reports of AMVs on EBay should never be there, their removal from EBay should not be questioned or investigated, just removed automatically by EBay staff.

Something like that, just flush it out to full form ^_^. Emailing reports to EBay does JACK SQUAT if you're not on VeRo or whatever it is called. You'll have to do something like the above to be taken seriously.

I dunno, you can just email ebay and tell them that they are selling illegal copyrighted works. They are selling CDs with copyrighted music on them aren't they? That'll easily get eBay to boot off that particular auction. No need to get all uppity and say that you don't want them selling your work. Tis easier to just go with whatever works.

Unfortunitely, Ebay requires that only the registered copyright holder can request an auction be pulled.

Are you sure? Last time this happened the two auctions that were reported here were ended early. They didn't ban the user or anything though.

Despite their rules, they have a large amount of HK dvd's selling all the time. I imagine they just look the other way on any copy righted anime goods because most of the HK sellers do a lot of business it looks like....some of them have 1000's of feedbacks.

As long as they get their money (seller fees) they don't care I guess....

The name of this thread could be changed to "Attention AMV Creators: Someone is, has been, and always will be selling your AMVs!" without losing a shred of truth. Scumbags will be scumbags, there's little we can do about it. Like anime and music companies have really had much luck dealing with Son May and EverAnime.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

exactly, pirates are the best people on earth. And they'll always be around to make people who make money off of something make less money. I think that made sense but I'm not sure.

*hugs CB soundtracks that were 10 a piece*

On the topic of selling AMV's, i'm not really picky, if someone wants to sell my stuff, let them. its not like i'm making money off of it in the first place.

If you're not making money, why should the people selling them? That's the principle, not that it helps anything in the long run.
