plaigerism question...
If someone uses a vid for footage and reproduces the clips in almost the exact order they were in the original vid, is there anything you can do about it? Normally I wouldn't say anything if I thought someone took scenes from one of my vids, but this uses the entire video, with half the scenes in the exact order and duration they were in mine. Of course it *is* one of my older vids so the quality isn't great to begin with, but it's one of my old favorites and I don't really like seeing the entire thing set to another song with someone else's name on it.
The reason I ask here instead of just dropping it in the mod's box is because I don't really know how close the two videos have to be for it to be proven plaigerism. The first minute or so looks like it's taken directly from my vid, but she does mix the order in the last part since my vid was longer.
Anyway, is there anything I can do about it or is it a lost cause? Just contacting the person won't do any good because it's a local link, and she couldn't remove that herself even if she admitted it and wanted to.

It's a tricky issue... but the main objection I find is that people should always credit their sources and if they have taken pre-edited footage from you then you should be cited as a source.
Plus it's courtesy when it's at all feasible to ask someone permission. Obviously we can't realistically ask the permission of the original anime creators but taking from another amatuer in the same field without asking when it's an email away is a nono in my book

Hey,
I've had someone take my Material Girl video and splice it with someone else's video and then called it their own. I mean, they just took the downloaded video of mine and theirs and used that as the source footage making for mega-crappy viewing. I really wasn't pleased about that but there's not much one can do about it. All they get to do is look stupid. Videos made from downloaded footage = crap.

Here's my own example:
First note my own video: http://tricky.desu.org
Then note this one: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=25200
I think I got attribution in the Various tag, but I'm not sure. But to his credit he reedited my video(including the completely shameless watermark) with 5 cuts. Course that was the best edited song out of his project. The other two videos used crappy VHS quality DBZ or IY or something along those lines. He was so much better off using my video as source footage...

And that kid hasn't edited a single thing since then. Perhaps an angry diety smoked his ass in an example of divine retrobution?BogoSort wrote:Here's my own example:

What are you talking about. This was his first experiment in editing. He's got many more on his profile. I have yet to have the free time to check out his latest masterpieces.dokool wrote: And that kid hasn't edited a single thing since then.
