uh, dont wanna sound like a noob or nothing but...

whats the point of those d2v projects/avs scripts? It looks like a pain in the ass, and people tell me that you get really good quality from them, but ive gotten better quality then them with my method. I would try and learn it if I could find how to get better quality with it than my way, but I dunno

Well, part of it is that DVD2AVI doesn't make as good HuffYUV AVIs as VirtualDub does (or so I'm told). Personally, I edit with the AVS scripts because I don't want to take up hard drive space with big ol' HuffYUV files and for to ensure that I get the best possible quality (= straight from the VOBs) on export.

120 GB isn't enough for me, even USING AVS scripts and VOBs...

The advantage to using AVS scripts is that you can play around with filters and such for both pre- and post- production without having to keep re-encoding the video over and over. Things like cleaning, smoothing, sharpening, etc. can all be done by opening up Notepad and changing some numbers here and there ^^.

well, can you set the script to deinterlace the footage without having to throw it into vdub?

Yes, and it's very easy:

[MPEG2Source/AVISource/DirectShowSource] (parameters)
[DeinterlacerHere](parameters)

Cowboy Bebop's VOBs alone take up 1/4 of a 120 GB drive....

God help me when I begin ripping DBZ stuff again.

That's the thing :P. Between all the DB(Z) stuff I've got ripped for Doomrider and another project... I've got <B>two gigs</B> left on it (the 120 GB drive). Well, that's in addition to all the Doomrider HuffyUVs... heh.

But yeah, IVTCing (which, if can be done correctly, eliminates the need for deinterlacing in the first place) and other stuff is just so much easier via scripting... highly recommended.
