The point of this effect? <moving bars>

Post by danielwang » Sun Dec 28, 2003 1:40 am

No, I am not talking of the Euphoria-style lighting symbols that seem to be showing up here and there.

This one is actually seen in actual anime. It's up there, right along with "Fast moving backgrounds", and "Split the screen to show two scenes"...

A black or other passive (not dominant) region is used to cover part of the scene. These show up, then disappear or slide out.

If this is used to highlight a subject or element, then I understand it. It's common to draw attention to the character's eyes in Anime using a Extra Close Up. And sometimes the scenes is really wide, like a landscape.

But then, you have the Angelic Layer session header err I mean opening sequence, and the .hack opening, and also that one part in AniMix 3.
Even more, it's interesting to see the background cropped by the bar, but then in the Anime, the character is OUT of the box.

Oh, this is in X: 1998 (or whatevery year). And in Kenshin?
On that note, it's showing up in Cartoon Network's Samurai Jack. The title card is actually a highlight of Jack's eyes in a serious look. But we also have not just highlighting, but yes Vertical cropped fightt scenes.

Now what purpose do you think this serves?

Just forgot:

Gundam.wing.endless_waltz

Yes, it's Heero walking against a starry background.

How could this be used in the AMV?

This should be in General Anime.

Second of all, we have no idea what you're talking about (for example, WHICH sequence in AniMix Part 3? Perhaps you could provide screencaps instead of using your obscure methods of explanation?)

Third of all, I'm not sure if you have any idea what you're talking about.

Don't you have family to spend the holidays with instead of continuing to post your garbage on our forums, or have they abandoned you for being the bastard child we already know you to be?

He's referring to screens being split up into different segments to show different events happening, different people's reactions or possibly different angles of something happening.

To answer his question, it can be used in the same way it's used in anime. To show different events happening, different people's reactions or possibly different angles of something happening. :P

I think he's just talking about black/scene/black stripes, which, yes, are used to highlight a particular part of the image.

Uh... yyyyeah. You could've figured that out yourself within five minutes instead of pestering the forum about it, there. Think before you post. But I guess that's too much to ask.

True.

Although I guess he just wanted some input on different people's opinions on how the effect could be used to symbolize or represent something.
