Not needed, I'm working with WilLoW to produce the DVD...danielwang wrote:Once the AniMix is done, I'd be willing to distribute the high-quality, broadcast and build files via CD-R for people. For free, send bland discs in, of course certain people would qualify for free discs overall.
Besides, BitTorrent distrobution worked well for the Parts 1-3 file, and it'll work just as well for the final mix if people don't want the DVD. Plus I'm sure WilLoW can always submit the file to the AMV CD Distro for people who can't get files that big.

Vegetto, your post wasn't up the last time I replied.
I see how its important for creators to have feedback on their final productions. The goal of our methods are two different things like you mentioned. The individual download is very personal and the mass distribution is very impersonal. I hear too much how users leave too little feedback for the creator's to build on. I wouldn't want to pull away from the great wealth of AMV information that this site has for certain. Well, it was simply something worth discussing, nothing else. Thanks for the input.

Your first problem is that you're listening to what danielwang has to say and taking him serious. His title is "Village Idiot" for a reason.matt__chambers wrote: Yes, that's called SHARED BANDWIDTH, the whole point of Bittorrent is exactly that, the bandwidth comes from somewhere, why not the people who are using it to get the file they want.
You mean like the ones listed here, here, and here? *gasp* I didn't know it was that easy to find the highly recommended ones!matt__chambers wrote: Exactly right, but I, like several other hundred people, want to see as many AMV's as possible, especially the highly recommended ones.
I think clicking a couple times to browse through a Top List and download a file sounds pretty simple to me too.matt__chambers wrote: Actually, and I may be alone on this, but clicking a few buttons and getting the AMV's via bittorrent in about the same time as it would take via postage seems simpler to me... and less of a hassle.
Now *this* is where you gain my wrath. Before making a Big Suggestion That You Think Is A Good Idea, you should at least make a token effort to see what's already available and consider what other people will think before you post.matt__chambers wrote:
[please excuse the ignorance of the following statement, i didn't research anything]...
Now, while this concept of a Super-Mega-Ultra-Pack of AMVs sounds appealing at first thought, it's automatically geared towards those with big and fast internet connections and lots of harddrive space, and not necessarily people who are new to the scene, who may not have the best computer or the fastest internet connection... etc etc. I think that a possible solution now that DVD-R is becoming so prevalent is to have a DVD Distro... some editors (AD, VicBond, Ashyukun, and Will/Aluminum, to name a few) are beginning to release their works on DVD, so they could use this as a vehicle. However, the "Top 100 AMVs" thing could also be used by burning all the AMVs to a data DVD-R and including a codec pack or two...

This isn't all that great an idea, you have no target audience. Many people here on the org won't download because we already have these videos. Bittorrent has a bad transfer rate, it just took me literally over 48 hours to download one 1.5 gig file and I have DSL, so I doubt random non-amv fans spending over two days to download something just to see what AMVs are like. People who want a really large collection quickly (hey, there are some who get off from the 'I have more than you!' egotrip) have the AMV cd distro project avalable to get 73 cds worth of AMVs. Even people interested but not on a-m-v.org can get thousands of AMVs without waiting if pointed to the direct and indirect links here on the org. I just don't see who will actually download a torrent when there are other, faster and better, ways of doing it.
Besides, bittorrent has the fatal flaw that unless there are many people interested it dies. Within a week or two you'd probably end up being the only person seeding and when you hit that point it's easier, and quicker, to setup an FTP site. An FTP site would be very redundant to the org so at this point your project would probably die.
That being said, if you like this idea then go for it. If I were around when they were creating the donut I probably would have said Phade would never get enough donations to keep it going. Obviously my precognition skills aren't exactly the best.....
