AMV collection distribution
I for one hate downloading many files seperately as well as having to pick and choose what music vids I see because a-m-v.org is limited on their bandwidth and I do not wish to be a leech. I came upon this topic a while ago and was very much interested. I was wondering if a few people wanted to get together with me and pool their AMV's together to make a collection of AMV's to distro via bittorrent as a massive multi-gigabyte torrent. If no one is interested that is okay, I'll probably end up doing this on my own but the collection I have will be rather incomplete at first. I'd like to do a top 100 AMV's collection [based on a-m-v.org] or something of that sort. When you have just one torrent to worry about seeders are more plentiful because the users focus on the one file and not several hundred torrents for each AMV. And a project of this magnitude would gain some serious interest from downloaders. I for one am not a fan of Usenet, and a free alternative that uses the downloaders' bandwidth only benefits everyone. And if Phade wanted to help out at all since he already has access to all the AMV's that would be generous, and unexpected I will admit since it is asking a lot. Or, if someone else has a considerable AMV collecetion, sending me a CD or DVD of that collection [reimbursed of course] would be helpful as well. Again its just a thought... and of course I'd seed until I have to go back to college.

is there a problem with that? I mean, I should look in to the CD distros, [please excuse the ignorance of the following statement, i didn't research anything]... its not like they are making a profit on these am I correct? so why would anyone be offended by an online distrobution means as well as the CD distrobution?

Once the AniMix is done, I'd be willing to distribute the high-quality, broadcast and build files via CD-R for people. For free, send bland discs in, of course certain people would qualify for free discs overall.
With the HuffYUCK files, I use the "DVD Shrink" to master the DVD and put it on a DVD-R too. I can burn General Use AND authoring, r rw and ram plus minus!
But really, I have a spindle of Discs.

But BitTorrent sucks - it's choking algoithm makes you upload WHILE downloading. And small files - they allow you to select what videos you want to see.Janzki wrote:Don't pay attention to Danielwang. Anyway, I think your idea is good. For a beginning AMV collector it would be great to get "the cream of the crop" in one package. Bittorrent would also work better with a larger file than with individual videos.
Look, how about this for a P2P network: I copy DVDs (seed the system). Now YOU copy 3 DVDs and send them to other people. And so on.
All it takes is the postal service and CD-Rs and it's MUCH simpler.

Yes, that's called SHARED BANDWIDTH, the whole point of Bittorrent is exactly that, the bandwidth comes from somewhere, why not the people who are using it to get the file they want.danielwang wrote:But BitTorrent sucks - it's choking algoithm makes you upload WHILE downloading.
Exactly right, but I, like several other hundred people, want to see as many AMV's as possible, especially the highly recommended ones. And for people who haven't been part of the community they just want to get them without hassle, or postage, or guilt of leeching from Phade if they choose not to donate.danielwang wrote:And small files - they allow you to select what videos you want to see.
I didn't understand this... do you mean rip DVD's and share the entire uncompressed DVD? And do you mean share via mail or via internet? And by saying "And so on" do you mean everyone should rip DVD's and copy them? How many people do you think have the money for burners, esecially DVD burners, AND the time to do this. And DVD's of what? Of AMV's? well who has 4.3GB of AMV's lying around? if you do, please seed them...danielwang wrote:Look, how about this for a P2P network: I copy DVDs (seed the system). Actually, and I may be alone on this, but clicking a few buttons and getting the AMV's via bittorrent in about the same time as it would take via postage seems simpler to me... and less of a hassle. It's just an ALTERNATIVE to the CD copies floating around, we'll leave it up to the users to see which way is more convienient.danielwang wrote:All it takes is the postal service and CD-Rs and it's MUCH simpler.

Well that was certainly witty and productive.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:I ain't using ShitTorrent
I think what it really comes down to is "artistic integrity" of sorts. I, for one, really like knowing that when someone gets my video off of either this site or my personal site, they have the ability to read my thoughts on the video (IE - description), and possibly even see what some other viewers have thought of it (IE - reviews). The way the site is set up, they can even CONTRIBUTE to this by leaving their own reviews, or just e-mailing me.
When you have a giant collection of music videos, they collectively become NON-individual, now, and just part of a larger collection. Sure, maybe it's a good thing that you're not singling anyone out by having such a large collection...
But let's face it: we're all creators, and we all like it when someone checks out our videos and can see WHO we are and WHAT we think of our own work. A mass distribution of videos doesn't really allow for this.
I think it's a fantastic idea for LARGE video files (such as all the recent "projects" going around), but for individuals' videos... eeeehhhh.... I'm not so sure.
