new video category?
We have a 'comedy' category, a 'fun' category, an 'other' category, and the usual 'romance' and 'action' - but no angst.
Now, I've thought to match up 'angst' with the 'drama' category, but having it's own category would be better since many non-angsty romance vids fit into drama - meaning people pick both categories. It's probably far too late for this, but I for one would like to see an 'angst' category along with the oher options we have. It's more specific than 'drama', but no more specific than romance or comedy as referring to its own genre.

angst-A feeling of anxiety or apprehension often accompanied by depression
drama-
A prose or verse composition, especially one telling a serious story, that is intended for representation by actors impersonating the characters and performing the dialogue and action.
A serious narrative work or program for television, radio, or the cinema.
Theatrical plays of a particular kind or period: Elizabethan drama.
The art or practice of writing or producing dramatic works.
A situation or succession of events in real life having the dramatic progression or emotional effect characteristic of a play: the drama of the prisoner's escape and recapture.
The quality or condition of being dramatic: a summit meeting full of drama.
I don't see why we couldn't have maybe a sub-selection for angst, it does differ enough I suppose.
In fact there are several sub-selections that could be created for each of the main ones, maybe a noir that could also be under drama or serious etc.

Heh, I was thinking more along the lines of romantic angst. Putting 'romantic' and 'drama' as the categories of a vid where one of the loved ones dies doesn't distinguish it from the 'romance/drama' vids where it's 'happily ever after.' But you can tag on a 'comedy' if a romance vid is romantic and funny. And you can tag on 'action' if it's action-packed romance.fyrtenheimer wrote:WHAT
you might as well just have a selection that says "linkin park"
So...angsty romance - what for that? Drama doesn't do it, action won't work since some angst vids don't have any action in them. I just think angst is a category as much as romance or comedy or action. It's something that may have a mix of other things in it, but it's still a genre of its own that's as frequently used as 'romance' or 'action.'
Doesn't matter, I'm just making the suggestion so I won't sit around thinking "I want an angst category...waah!" - this way I can think "well, I tried to get an angst category, oh well."

What would a video about a clown fall into? Character Profile, even though it's a happy video, it would also fall into fun, comedy, and probably parody.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Angst?
Videos that make you anxious? Videos about people who are depressed and anxious?
Sound like Drama and Character Profile to me.
What would a video about Beldandy and her guy and their sappy love fall into? Drama, and romance. No way of knowing if it's an angsty video or not without watching it since all drama tells you is that it involves strong emotions - happy *or* sad.
That's the point - there is no way to search for an unhappy video on this site. All you can do is plug in the 'drama' and hope to weed the angsty videos out of the sappy ones.
And if it's the word itself, that's fine. Pick a different word that means angst (as in antagonist, not anxious). On other sites, the category is used to mean the opposite of 'happy/sappy' (see ffnet or any fiction archiving website - it's 'romance/comedy/angst,' and all the other variations), so if you have a different word that would suffice, that's great. What I want is a category to list the videos that are the opposite of the 'comedy/fun' videos. What do we have that will give me those, because I can't find them without reading through every single video description in the drama/action/romance/serious/other categories. Drama vids might be fun or angsty, the same for romance and action. Serious is the closest match, but even those may or may not contain angst. Other is an open bag - too scary to try wading through those vids. ^_^;
I just can't see people asking for 'fight' categories and 'hentai' categories when we don't even have the usual 'story' catogories of 'fun' and 'angst'. It's like all that matters is whether the people are fighting or laughing - not what the 'stories' in the videos are about.

In amvs, you mean. ^.^ Because it's been around for years in other fandoms, particularly storytellng fandoms (anime or non-anime). Amvs just aren't about stories, fun or angsty. Next I'll be asking that we get rid of the 'fun' category since the video information is there to tell you if the video is a fun or sad.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:The Video Information is there to tell you if it's happy or sad.
"Angst" just isn't a genre.
Thanks for replying, though. ^_^ I appreciate that.
