"AMV Recommendations" Redux

Post by dokool » Mon Dec 22, 2003 1:50 am

Here's another idea to keep it more structured:

One thread per anime OR musical act. People post videos they like to that thread and that thread alone for the specific anime/musical act. Duplicates get deleted. All-encompassing "Gimme some good videos" threads get deleted. There's a post to General AMV about YYH vids when there was a thread for the EXACT SAME THING a week ago. We can't expect the newbies to get any smarter and use the "search" button, but at least we can control their stupidity.

And if it's too much to make a separat forum, you could always make them sticky threads - a sticky thead for every anime asked about more than once. The second time someone asks, you sticky it and make it the official 'rec for this anime' thread for that particular movie/series. Would only take a few pages. ^_^;

Also, if newbies could really only respond to stickies, i doubt they would feel the need to ever come back.

But the thing is, we don't need the first page of General AMV to be stickied with "Suggest an AMV" threads...

why don't you just make it its own little part of the forum then?

You have your GA and etc, then your AMV-R

Thing is, we have a few very good recommends lists already:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... sbyvid.php

and of course there's going to be another one this year too.

I think the only thing really missing is something that recommends older videos.

But it's back to the 'recommend according to *anime*' - those lists aren't set up according to anime. You have to do a lot of trial and error to find vids for a certain anime on any of the 'top/rec' lists.

At best, the forum would be useful until the 'by anime' filter gets added to the top lists, or 'search by op' gets added to the super search. Right now, the only ways to find the 'top' vids for a specific anime are to either go through everything on the top lists hoping to find one for the right anime, or to ask.

As Arigatomyna has said, I'd like to just reiterate having a filter by anime in the "Top 10%" or "star scale" lists as opposed to a forum thread. As I said earlier, I think having more and more "lists" lead to more and more people being angry that they're not on it and so on or arguing that vid X isn't worthy.

I guess what I'm getting at is that we already have enough lists (IMO) that differentiate "good" from "bad" and in turn all the negativity that comes with them. Why add more?

I'm with the notion of the idea, just not the execution. I don't think a forum thread is the way to go - especially as there are so many possible anime and so on.

Now a census, that could be ujseful.
