dwchang: Yeah, actually I didn't know about the VCA forums. True, they will be more organized and efficient and what not, but I'm hoping this will get some of the lesser known videos some exposure and will give the voters more time to look through potential nominees.
For example a lot of videos Fungie posted I haven't seen. I'll have to give em a look.

Well again, I do want to re-iterate my warning since I think a lot of forum readers will think that (since I was thinking that way) and be a bit annoyed. You're right in that some good videos I hadn't known about have been posted, but again...we're going to go through this *exact* process with these *exact* threads per category in about a month or two so it seems a bit too early and repetitive IMO. It seems like people get more excited every year about these things and early every time *shrug*. I guess that's sort of good too.downwithpants wrote:dwchang: Yeah, actually I didn't know about the VCA forums. A month or two? That explains it, I thought Phade was rushing because things had to be set up in two weeks. So the actual vca doesn't start until February or March? I can see why you wouldn't want people to get a head start on downloading unknown videos. It's better if they only have time to get ones for creators they recognize, right? And since no one is on 56k and limited to downloading one vid per day, there'll be plenty of time for everyone to download every vid listed for each category - like you said in an earlier post (the only way to be accurate is to watch them all, right?) Good thing I'm not limited to 2kbps on each download.dwchang wrote:Well again, I do want to re-iterate my warning since I think a lot of forum readers will think that (since I was thinking that way) and be a bit annoyed. Ya know for someone who admits that this is their first VCAs, you sure say things with a lot of sarcasm, authority and superiority.Arigatomyna wrote:A month or two? Actual voting for the VCAs will probably not be till around March if it was like last year. There will be a good ~month where you can nominate videos and recommend things in the VCA forum and per cateogory thread. That is plenty of time to download and watch videos posted. Even after nomination, there is another month for people to download the 5 or so nominees per category before you vote.
As you can see, there is plenty of time. The reason Phade is getting everything ready is b/c there is a lot of work to be done just to see what videos are "qualified" to be nominated. Things like what year a video was entered, multiple accounts and so on. He wants to have everything ready by January so we can begin nominating categories which is another step prior to this specific video nomination stuff. I've even been talking to him about this recently over a messenger program.
Basically my point is that in trying to help out a creator, you could easily be doing the opposite by continually posting about a video and so on. I have no doubt that nobody means to do anything negative, but at the same time, it can get quite annoying. Especially when it's a good 2 months off till we have finalized nominations.
At the same time, I'd like to think most people can look past such things and just look and judge the video, but if you think everybody reading the boards is objective, that's a naive assumption. I know plenty of people who would get annoyed by the continual shameless (self usually) promotion especially when we're going to have an entire forum for that purpose.
And again, I do realize everyone has the nicest intents in doing this, but all this is is a warning. Nothing more, so stop trying to be sarcastic and aggressive when you obviously don't know the facts.
Feel free to do as you choose. It's just a warning...

A lot of the videos I posted aren't by the more popular people on this site, so if I forgot you, it may be that I like the video but I want to give some of the more unpopular videos a chance to be in the VCA's. As for the other videos, I've seen Chibi Things and liked it ^_^ Haven't seen Fyrt's nomination yet so I couldn't say ^^;; The list will be MUCH longer when the forum comes out so prepare for it ^_~

^_^ I expected as much.dwchang wrote:I've even been talking to him about this recently over a messenger program.
I believe that. Some editors tend to get ruffled if they aren't the ones being talked about - no need to anger them.Basically my point is that in trying to help out a creator, you could easily be doing the opposite by continually posting about a video and so on. True. I know it gets a bit old when some threads get cluttered with the same person talking about the same two videos over and over with his friends. Very good point - that gets annoying really fast.At the same time, I'd like to think most people can look past such things and just look and judge the video, but if you think everybody reading the boards is objective, that's a naive assumption. I know plenty of people who would get annoyed by the continual shameless (self usually) promotion especially when we're going to have an entire forum for that purpose.
Yes, oh wise and mighty DW! I feel so ashamed of having done something to annoy you. What, oh, what can I do to redeem myself for speaking out of place? I can only cower in ignorance and promise that I shall remember that some people are not objective - and they tend to be quite open in expressing thein non-objectivity and condescending attitude in place of evil sarcasm - how could I have forgotten such a simple thing...? I promise I shall emulate you to the best of my ability and play the kind condescending teacher to the ignorant masses rather than the sarcastic ignorant player. And again, I do realize everyone has the nicest intents in doing this, but all this is is a warning. Nothing more, so stop trying to be sarcastic and aggressive when you obviously don't know the facts.
I withdraw my statements, and beg forgiveness for speaking against thee.
Warning taken, please do not bring thy wrath down against your humble worshipper.Feel free to do as you choose. It's just a warning...

It's not a personal attack - unless you were making one against me for being ignorant, sarcastic, aggressive, and naive. ^_^dwchang wrote:Jesus Christ...someone sure has a lot of pent up aggression and had to turn it all into some personal attack. Whatever that's your perogative...
I'm just playing with you because you were talking down to me again. You know I love it when you do that. ;p

Well considering you were the first one to enter with sarcasm and I was pointing it out and that it was strange that someone who has never done a VCA was trying to speak with authority, I think my rebuttal was sufficient and called for. Again, you started with the sarcasm and "i know everything" attitude. And at the same time, I provided information to help correct you. You were the one who interpretted it as some sort of attack and took it a step further.Arigatomyna wrote:It's not a personal attack - unless you were making one against me for being ignorant, sarcastic, aggressive, and naive. ^_^dwchang wrote:Jesus Christ...someone sure has a lot of pent up aggression and had to turn it all into some personal attack. Do as you please. Think what you like. All I was trying to do was help (in both instances).
