Trident wrote:Eh... The Silmarillion was okay, but not terribly interesting (thinking about it, it reminds me of old Greek histories in terms of structure--Herodotus and Thucydites, in particular). The thing I really like about Tolkien, though, is the existence of The Silmarillion. Middle Earth had a very detailed history. It even had its own mythology, bits of which creep up in The Lord of the Rings. Heck, there are bits of Middle Earth in Roverandom, a childrens' book about a dog which he wrote for one of his sons--it has nothing whatsoever to do with hobbits or rings or anything of the sort; it's a children's fantasy set in the modern world (well, modern when he wrote it in the '30's), and yet it talks about the land beyond the sea where the Elves went...

Tolkien was a genius.

Yeah it's like he created his own piece of history. He goes into so much detail it's almost as if it actually happened. Tolkien rocks

You do realize there was a time when people sat down and read for fun, don't you? There are other forms of entertainment than movies..... :?

*sigh* I really hope you were joking. But it addresses a deeper issue: reading seems to be a lost art these days... *wanders off ranting about the sorry state of humanity*

they obviously you're pretty dumb

for one thing a script is alot different then a book. A script is like:

Jane: That guy is a freakin idiot.
Tom: I know he is, he has no clue what he is talking bout
(Rob enters the room)
Rob: Whats up Guys

Now here's an example of a book:
Jane and Tom are having a intresting conversation about some guy they know.

"That guy is a freakin idiot." Jane says

"I Know he is, he has no clue what he is talking about." Tom replies. Just then Rob enters the room.

"Whats up Gays" Ron says witha smile

There ya go, the difference betwen a script and a book. Got it?? Good. Maybe you should pay more attetnion in class.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke (both the XTC_Kurama/nailz1000 thing and the Trident thing), but it's hard to tell on the internet.

So...I'll wander off to the left.

Strange thing, though: Can anyone tell me Tolkein's birthday?

Now make a guess what mine is.

I don't have anything witty left to say. Therefore, I will dance. On some cheese.
