Why do people only notice the BAD points of your video?

Oh it can go both ways. Using an obscure anime series is by far the best tactic. However when you pit a semi decent DBZ video against say a really well done Inuyasha video, the DBZ one will most likely come out on top. It's all a matter of the numbers of people voting. There are a LOT of DBZ fans out there (just look at the number of DBZ AMVs being created) and most of them have pretty low standards (again, just look at all the AMVs) so if you make a semi-okay DBZ video, it's likely gonna get pretty good scores.AbsoluteDestiny wrote:uhuh, so you say that your Hellsing video was higher ranked because it's more popular than Outlaw Star and then say that I used an obscure anime to get high scores...
nice logic there.
It's not black and white though, there are DOZENS of contributing factors, however there is a certain amount of predictability in any instance.
The download is at 92%, we shall soon see. Although for no more work than a day, I can't imagine it's anything very special as far as editing work. I'll mainly be judging it on it's theme (if it has one) and the emotions it reflects. Not that I need the star scale to validate the quality of my videos - I'd like to think they speak for themselves.

Meh, he can dislike the video all he wants. He underestimates how much original content is in the video, but that's fair enough given the video description.
I still think I can safely stand behind the notion that a video made in 8 days can be good. ArimaShinjikun was done in around 10 days (I think it was) and that's a pretty technical video. I'd refer to other people's videos but I've no idea how long it takes other people to make videos ^_^;;;

the anime he used wasn't THAT obscure...hell I knew and seen Comedy before he made that video...I just never knew the dvd's it was from o.O.
I made "Fire!!" in 3 days, and it still remains my highest scored video (in other words it's my most popular
I don't see why people still insist on giving that vid a 10 or even a 9 in Capture Quality, it deserves a 7 or even a 5 by some people's standards. ) other than Brotherhood of the Pwolf (6 days) if I get off my ass and tell phade to get rid of that review that was all 1's (cause the vid bumped Euphoria to #2). My "If It Wasn't" vid was made in 2 days..but it's less than 1 1/2 minutes long...

It's good to see I'm not the only one who makes videos in a short amount of time.
Most of the stuff we do isn't worth spending months on
I've only spent more than a month on two videos - Shameless Rock and Virtua Anime both of which I was completely new to most of the things I was doing in the video.
All the others have been in 2 weeks or less. Idealy I like to make a video in one weekend.

My NES Project - Yusuke man vs. Jin man video only took around 14 hours nonstop to complete only taking breaks for the bathroom, lunch, and dinner. It's my highest ranked video so far.
I knew some people who claimed to work 3 months on a video and it looked like something that was done in 3 hours. Too many people like to hide behind the "time" excuse to make themselves look better and too many people use the "time" excuse to detract the effort from a video.

I like how you use yourself as a basis of comparison...it's quite amusing. Take a poll though, I think you'll find most people haven't seen it.Jebadia wrote:the anime he used wasn't THAT obscure...hell I knew and seen Comedy before he made that video...I just never knew the dvd's it was from o.O.
Which is why I was saying that most opinions and star ratings are meaningless as to how good an actual video is. A very indepth opinion can be a good judge of an AMV, but it's still from one persons perspective. If you share aspects with that person who made the opinion, you'll probably agree with them, otherwise no.I made "Fire!!" in 3 days, and it still remains my highest scored video (in other words it's my most popularI don't see why people still insist on giving that vid a 10 or even a 9 in Capture Quality, it deserves a 7 or even a 5 by some people's standards. )
I remember that one AMV I made, "Bitchin" got one opinion that was all 9's and 10's and the person just thought it was 8 shades of kick fucking ass...even though I only spent 2 hours making it (used CCS with the Buffy opening theme). That opinion though, has no real meaning as far as whether the video was really "good" or not.
An AMV can be good on a variety of points, both subjective and objective stances. For instance you can say with absolute certainty whether a video makes use of advanced editing techniques like lip synching, head and background motion lip syching, flash bang effects, animated music effects, animation reconstruction, etc, etc.
However just because an AMV is a technical marvel when it comes to editing doesn't mean that everyone is going to enjoy it. That's where the theme comes in. Whether the majority of the audience can relate to it, or get lost in the emotions and the story. As I said though, that's a subjective stance. No matter what you make, there will most likely always be someone who loves it, someone who hates it, and someone who just doesn't give a fuck...all three stances will be based entirely on subjective analysis though.
TIME does equate to quality though. Michelangelo took FOUR YEARS to paint the Sistine Chapel, not 4 days. Nearly every celebrated marvel of artistic achievement in human history took countless hours to produce. From the Notre Dame Cathedral, to the great Pyramids, to the Crazy Horse Memorial (a project which may take another FIFTY YEARS to complete). Even the anime series that so many of you rip apart to make your "art", some of it took DECADES of artistic creativity and work to produce the final results. TIME DOES EQUAL QUALITY. Anyone who thinks otherwise is most likely an ignorant fool or young and inexperienced.
