Char's Counter Attack
I've just finished watching Char's Counter Attack, and it seemed somewhat... rushed. Story wise that is, was this movie condensed from a U.C. Timeline TV series or OVA or something, or did they just not want the movie to be 3hrs long?

No, CCA was not based in anything more and got cut down (however, there IS still an extended/different telling of it which, as of yet, has not been translated to English in the novels 'Beltochika's Children' and 'Hi Streamer'...sadly it could be a while (if ever)before those are translated (then again, they ARE finally rereleasing the English publications of the original Mobile Suit Gundam novels...so hopefully...)
Although, in a delightfully ironic twist, I hear they had to rush the ending of ZZ in order to set things up for CCA to take place.
Hope this helped

It just seemed so very rushed, and the opening seemed so odd.
"Char just dropped an asteroid on Earth!"
"It'd suck if he drops another one."
"Yeah, two colonies and one astroid isn't enough to make it suck, a second asteroid is needed to make us worry!"
"Yeah, I hope he dosn't do it agian... Lets go sell him the Axis asteroid space docks."
"Good idea!"
Like... WHAT THE FUCK!?
The rest was good though, dispite feeling very very rushed threw the first half. Still liking 0083 for now.

For a little bit of an idea what's going on:
Try to either
a) Purchase a copy
or
b) Borrow a copy from a friend
Bandai initially released it with a booklet that explains events leading up to CCA, such as Char's rise and the second Neo-Zeon...knowing rental places, they prob. didn't include it with the disc, which is a damned shame since it helps clear up a good deal of it.
That said, if you get the chance, do check out the MSG movie trilogy (/semi-shameless Gundam whoring)

They did have the bootlet actually, they had the original packaging for display purpose... The events went something like this:
"There's a booklet that's supposed be with this, you have it with the actual package, can I have it too?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Rules."
"It dosn't say on the wall 'Customers may not have all the content of the rental.'"
"It's the rules!"
"GIMME THE FUCKING BOOKLET! ...Please?
"
"How about you get the fuck outta here?"
"Okay, I'll just take the DVD."
"Good. That'll be $6.88."
"Wait, I got a coupon.
"
