GUNDAM Wing
well i almost hate to say it but i like GW. I say that only because the mechas i belive are the best ones in the gundam universe because they can actualy move and they got a cool variety of weapons instead of the same old machine gun, laser rifle, or beam blade. now here you got missles, rail guns, cooler looking beam rifles(01,wing zero, talgeise),flamethrowers(shenlong, altron),BIG beam blades, army knife(heavyarms),shythes, and other unique wepons you wont find in any other gundam series, im not sure about X i havent seen that one yet.
Don't sell UC short...it's weapons technology isn't as base as it looks...

Scythes tech. never appeared because, for the most part, it's the standard beam blade with a longer handle...although tech. a variant of it did appear before hand in Victory Gundam (granted that was more of an ax)
The look of the beam rifle is a matter of perspective...personally, I think Nu Gundam and the GX had better looking beam rifles than, say, Wing's buster rifle (and, for the record, Tallgeese wasn't packing beams, that was prettymuch a bazooka)
Missiles...missiles are really nothing new to Gundam by any stretch, they even go back to the original series (some makes of Zaku sporting missile launchers on their legs)
BIG beam blades...take a look at the sabers Sazabi and GP-03 (Dendrobium Orchis mode) are packing...kind of makes Epyon's look tiny...
Now then...just for the sake of it, some unique UC weapons you won't see in Wing:
-Shot lancer (A reusable pike weapon that, in spite of looking odd actually comes in rather handy and can do a good deal of damage)
-Funnels (miniature remote guns controlled by thought...sounds like a good tool to me!)
-Lafressia (this entire MA alone as a weapon in the right hands is lethal as Hell!)

p.s. On one quick final note:

Toecutter - For the record, the Leo & Tragos designs owe less to the Zaku, more to the GM and Guntank (/random useless factoid, use as you will...)

I think the great thing about Gundam Wing is the messages it gives. For instance (And I don't care how many anime shows show this, I like GundamW's better), the beuty of life. Traise loved humans, and looked at them sacrificing themselves in battle as a brave, great thing. Relena loved humans, and didn't want them to die. You never really knew who was right, and the bad guys and good guys weren't clear. I don' know, I really liked the show, and still watch today, but it's not my fave anime. Many other series sub text is much more cryptic and.... and.... Oomfy!

Unfortunately my beloved Gato died while taking out that Feddy ship.

I agree that 0083 has a class of its own. That incident was bloody as hell and skill was the primary factor involved. No newtypes(they are cool but having newtype abilities is kinda cheating, a weak newtype could kill a seasoned regular soldier), no 16 year old boys who just happen to be the best pilots alive or any of that.

Gato was the Knightmare of Solomon for a reason and Ko had to grow not only as a pilot but as a person in order to stand up to him.

To quote my old drama prof:"What really makes a story is to see something fundamental change in the main protagonist."

Ko goes from a green test pilot to a man with a mission. He suffers the loss of his father-like Lt. Burning and having his feelings twisted around by his beloved Nina. She had serious issues involving her parents and being a single female professional, and on top of that she still hadn't gotten over Gato leaving her.

After the tragedy on the La Vien Rose Ko is left determined to stop the Delaz Fleet and protect the Earth. Then after his confrontation with Gato and Nina aboard the colony about to be dropped, Ko and Gato are fired upon by the Feddy Solar Array Weapon while they duel. Gato had won and was about to kill Ko when the blast hit them.

When Ko realizes that everything they sacrificed for was for naught, we can see a paradigm shift in his thinking. His face is a mixture of torment and confusion. Why?What was it all for?

He then loses it and fires on the Feddies. He is eventually brought in and faces charges but refuses to speak. After the gov't erases all data on the RX-78 and the subsequant units 1,2 and 3, Ko is freed to return to being a test pilot. He is somewhat optimistic but we can see that the Delaz rebellion has left deep emotional scars within him.

In 08th MS team, Shiro leaves the war less his left leg below the knee.
In Mobile suit Gundam, Amuro loses Lala and many of his close comrads.
In 0080, everyone important to the story dies with the exception of 2 people: the mentally-scarred boy and the young woman who killed the man she had feelings for and didn't know it, yet another issue for the little boy to try to come to terms with.

UC has the clear message that war sucks and in the end is utterly pointless, it only brings more suffering into the world.

In Gundam Wing(although it wasn't so bad), most of the characters are generally the same throughout the series(I say generally because despite little things here and there, their personalities remain). Lady Un is the person I see as changing and suffering the most. The steriotypical angst-fest does little to bring out the messages they speak of almost constantly.
In Gundam Wing the battles make war seem like an almost fun game. Despite the puppy scene with Heero, the boys go about killing soldier after soldier like they were roasting marshmellows or some other easily-consumed(by fire) and replaced object(hey! I want me some of those Aries too! Get Treiz to open up another bag!).

I bid you adiue.

I know, the smileys are just for my benefit. This is just a forum and not a paper for a film class or anything so it doesn't need to be too "Mr. Peanut" (by this I am referring to the time when a respectable gentleman had a cane, tophat, mustache, a monocle, and a pocketwatch, hence very stuffy)...maybe I should save that post for future ponderings :?

Now that I have your attention...

Your signature.....

I just have to mention it......

The difference between your and you're.
Your is that your is possesive indicating ownership of the person you are talking to.

You're is a conjunction of -you- and -are- indicative that you are stating that the person you are speaking to is in a certain state of being that you generally specify afterwards.

I have included several uses of the both of them only I usually opt-out of using you're, it just doesn't sound quite as good to me.

I'm sorry but as a former English major things like that tend to drive me nuts. Slowly it eats away at my mind.......

Please won't you fix it?
