Anime VS. Cartoons
I was having a discussion (argument) with a few (6) ppl today that seem to think that Anime is a form of cartoon. Despite my best attempts to persuade them away from that horrid idea I was shot down in a giant ball of flames. I need alittle more fire power against these ppl who think that Anime is Cartoons.
Let me know ur thoughts.

Don't expect to have an inteligent conversation with me, the hampster that runs the wheel inside my head died a few weeks ago from lack of excersize.

Re: Anime VS. Cartoons
Sorry, anime is a form of cartoon. That doesn't mean it's the same as Western ones, but a lot of it is. You deserve to be shot down because you are arguing the wrong side of the case.Charizard305 wrote:I was having a discussion (argument) with a few (6) ppl today that seem to think that Anime is a form of cartoon. While you can argue the term from here till tuesday, it's just semantics. When you say 'Anime' to someone they imediatly think of Japanese animation and know exactly what you're speaking of.
If you say 'I like anime' and someone says 'I like disney movies too!' you smack them, because Anime is not American. I know that, you know that, even the people who wish to argue it know that, they just want to argue stupid little points.

I have to admit though, I mean, I dont mind if someone calls anime, cartoons.
Cause I personaly like both, and they both draw heavy inspiration from each other, and as much as many of us would like to denie american "cartoons", I still love them, even if I do get flamed for saying I watch the power puff girls ~_~;;.

*pulls out his CD Case and pulls out his Powerpuff Girls DVD ^_^ *. Dont worry ur not the only one out there.
I dunno, in my mind Anime and cartoons are totally different, cartoons were made for kids, have virtually no story line, and generally dont attact as big as a population as Anime. Where as anime is pretty much the opposite.

I'd argue that all cartoons were made for kids, that no anime was, that no cartoons have plotline, that all anime does, that anime is as large as you say, and that cartoons aren't.Charizard305 wrote:*pulls out his CD Case and pulls out his Powerpuff Girls DVD ^_^ *. Otherwise, I agree with you ^_~
Oh, and no offense made by post, I'm just in a debating mood. Not a flamewar mood, please.

Personally-
Japan has anime. The States have cartoons.
However there is always the argument...
Anime is Japanese for 'a-ni-me-sho-n.'
Cartoons, in the sense, is an American, and now European, term for cel animation.
Now, technically, any animation imported into Japan (i.e cartoons, claymation) will still be called 'anime.' However, if it's made in Japan and exported out, like to the States, it's called 'anime.'
So, it really depends on who you talk to. The culturally diversed will call anime "anime." While Johnny Redneck* might view them as "them there funny cartoons."

Your logic fucken sucks ass. No plot, no storyline, and it doesn't attract like Anime does? Are you out of your fucken mind.I dunno, in my mind Anime and cartoons are totally different, cartoons were made for kids, have virtually no story line, and generally dont attact as big as a population as Anime. Would you put Family Guy in the same category as Totally Spies? What about Batman? Probably not. Cartoon is a drawing. Anime is a drawing. Just because they focus on another way of grabbing the audience, and are probably made for a more specific audience in mind (and a lot of that does happen even in the states, examples above) doesn't mean they're oh so different.
