...bwah?

You ARE talking about the org, right?

Maybe we hang out in entirely different forums and are seeing an entirely different set of posts...because to me the org = random lameass pics and rampant, insane screaming.
I know you're being sarcastic, but I'm going to take you seriously in response. When is the last time you've seen a two page long thread of people directing
insane screaming
toward a new member who asked a stupid question? I've seen long threads where they mock the member, post useless ignorant pics and use sarcasm to insult. But I haven't seen any of this *insane screaming* - not in months. What I meant by
random bolded rants...useless namecalling...outright hate and bandwagon style flaming
is something entirely different. That's what you see in a thread that starts out bitching and cussing up a storm, maximizing bold red letters so it screams to the world that the newbie is a motherfucking dick sucking idiot (not a direct quote - I'd have to search through the general amv section to find the 4 mnth old thread I'm quoting from). And then as if that wasn't enough to put the ignorant question asker in his place, more than 7 more members showed up within minutes to help cuss out and insult the new member. This wasn't frustration, it wasn't sarcasm - it was outright hate and bandwagon style flaming. And if that were still going on, I wouldn't even bother with the place.

So, to answer your question, yes, I'm talking about this forum. And I hold to what I said - it's still not as bad as it was when I joined. It's not even close to that sort of disgusting behavior.

I should have defined my terms better with a few examples to avoid confusion. :?

That's almost exactly what I said in Fungie's last thread. ^_^ And I wish people would take heed to it, and it seems like they are... in general. Sarah, really, most of the flames are in the form of sarcasm and oftentimes transparent at that. Some aren't *cough* -_-;;. But they do seem to be toned down a bit... and Fyrt brings up a good point: almost all of this negativity is focused here in OT, I never mistreat anyone in any other forum and am generally as helpful as I can be (especially lately, what with a lot of people not wanting to help).

Since I've been here... the Org has gotten a lot worse, but I think it's done getting worse. Now, to me at least, a lot of it is funny. :?

I can't remember exactly what they were saying, but that insult is the one that stands out most in my mind since it was written in huge red capital letters. I may have gotten the idiot wrong (think it was something ass related), but the rest is pretty close. And if I remember correctly, the new member was asking a video software question - and no one ever bothered to tell him he'd asked in the wrong forum, it went straight to the name calling. It's still the newbie-bashing thread I remember best (and if it hasn't been deleted, I'm sure it's still somewhere in the general amv section since it lasted a good week before it hit page two - never got moved).

[And this was probably closer to 5 months ago - it was right after I joined.]

Although its been awhile since I used this phrase, I guess it would be appropriate to this topic:

"If you can't take insults and sarcasm, you might not like this forum" - MAS Productions

Well it was something along those lines.
we are all selfish(except some of us)
I dont know what your talking about, ALL human beings are selfish in one way or another. It is human nature to be selfish, weither you realize it or not. Being selfish just isn't "Hey thats my toy no one else can play with it!", but it is also "I want someone to love". The very term selfish means wanting something for one's self. If we weren't selfish there would be no way we could survive. Although it is true that working together is great, but if you depend on someone's help, you lose self reliance and become somewhat weak mentally. Sorry if that's off topic, but I felt the need to comment.

As far as not posting if you have nothing better to say, I usually stick to that policy, but telling someone not to post is just asking for trouble. People have opinions, deal with it. As long as we have free will we will comment on things, regardless if it's meaningful or not. This forum is just like normal life, people are going to comment, and they have every right too. Even if someone gets hurt due to it. Even if you think its rude, arrogant or just pissing you off, its still a comment and it's just as welcome as a nice comment. A good example:

  • I am currently taking a figure drawing class at my college. We are constantly critiqued by our teacher. He does the usual stuff, points out the good ones so not to upset or embarrass those who aren't as good as some of the rest. The ones he doesn't want to upset and make mad, he just doesn't say anything. This is a big problem in art since if you aren't told you are doing something wrong, you will never learn to correct it.

What's my point, not all critizism is nice, and in a field art related (yes AMVs are a form of art) mean critizism can be just as helpful as nice critizism. Why? If the person went to the trouble to say something mean or saracastic, then there might be something wrong. Which means you need to go back and re-evalute something. Going back to my example above, almost everytime my teacher does a critique, he rarely comments on my art, and due to this my style hasn't changed much in 6 weeks. As an artist I need the mean comments in order to find out what I'm doing wrong. I dont want to hear, "Oh thats a good drawing, it might need a little work but it's still good." I dont want to hear that, I want to hear, "YOU LITTLE PISS ANT, WHY THE HELL ARE YOUR FIGURE'S LEGS AND ARMS SHORT!!! IMPROVE THEM!!! NOW!!!!! " I perfer that answer over no answer at all.

And it might very well be due to the policy "Dont answer if you dont have something better to say" that many people's videos dont get commented on and they dont know what they are doing wrong.

Just my opinion

Not everyone is selfish. If you were to say all people are egocentric, then I would agree.

Im refering to selfish as in the fact that we all want something for ourselves at one time or another. If you were to say that some people dont want things for themselves then I would say it was a lie. Every person has something they want. By definition that is being selfish. BTW, selfish isn't being used here as a synonym for stingy, as in to want something so bad as to be cruel or mean. I'm using selfish in the way that we all want something for ourselves, Weither love, a good job, happiness. All these thing can make a person selfish just by wanting them. Selfish isn't a negative word, its just always used in a negative way. BTW, Im not saying all people are selfish all the time, just that they are selfish at times.

Again this is the opinon I have gained in life. I am selfish all the time. I am self-less at times too. I am human and I expect to be selfish. I say things like:

"I want to love somebody"
"I want someone to love me"
"I want a good job"
"I want to make an A on my test"

These are all things that I want for myself, so I am indeed selfish. I dont see how anybody could say they aren't in one point or another.

Everyone commits acts of selfishness, of course, but not everybody is selfish.
