If there's a music video contest that's designed to include non-anime videos, then maybe you'd expect to see non-anime videos winning it. But we would you think that things that are not AMVs should do well in AMV contests?

AWA has a Video Art Track.

One of the honchos there, (Quu, I think?) specifically invited people here to enter a personal Babylon 5 video challenge.

AWA is far more welcoming to a wider variety of video fanart than any other anime centered con I'm aware of.

Others will make their own categories and rules as they wish, and no doubt some will welcome various game/trailer/parody categories.

People just need to pay attention to what is and is not accepted in any given contest, and submit accordingly.
