Non-Anime Videos Not Doing As Good In AMV Contests?
First off, I couldn't decide weither this belongs in the General AMV forum or the AMV Contests forum, so mods, feel free to move this wherever you please ^_^
Lately I've been seeing a lack of non-anime/VG videos that have made the finals in AMV contests. For example, their were quite a few FF videos sent to Otakon, none made the contest. In AWA Pro, 3 non-anime videos were submitted, but they all got so few votes that the non-anime category was dropped and none were nominated for any of the other categories.
Is it just that people have been more adapt to seeing anime music videos and thus shrug off non-anime ones or is it the fact the non-anime videos lately haven't been as great? I can't seem to figure it out and was wondering what others thought might be the reason.

The way I see it (it might not be the truth, decide for yourself
), it's pretty damn easy to make a non-anime video, considering all you need is a good enough computer, a CD-ROM and the right program. Pretty much the same excuse for the DBZ/LP video amount: if fans can they will. The problem is they lack the talent and/or experience to make the video good, so they get rejected most of the time from cons.
At least that's how it seems to be in my opinion. Enlightenment from anyone?

I plan on making a Spirit music video...you know...the horsie movie ^_^ But it won't be going to any cons so I suspect it'll do pretty badly come judging time
Well, one of the biggest reasons I think the FF videos are getting weaker is because the well dried up a couple years ago. Not enough new CG footage to use especially with FF. It's a very uneducated guess, but maybe the people making the game music vids are doing so early in their amv making career and relatively late when it comes to the whole scheme of things....in other words, they just discovered this stuff and haven't honed their skills yet.

Shadow just made a good FF video. To country music, nonetheless. And I hate country.MistyCaldwell wrote:Well, one of the biggest reasons I think the FF videos are getting weaker is because the well dried up a couple years ago. Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Or perhaps they just like anime more, or they're actually reading the rules. I mean, it's an ANIME video contest. I wouldn't be caught dead sending a non-anime vid to an anime vid contest. There are other contests for that.Fungie½ wrote: Is it just that people have been more adapt to seeing anime music videos and thus shrug off non-anime ones or is it the fact the non-anime videos lately haven't been as great? Nothing personal, Fungie, but I really don't feel much sympathy for the vidders there. I've even made non-anime vids, but I know how to read the rules and send things to the right contests.
