Tokyo Babylon

Post by Moonlight Soldier » Mon Oct 13, 2003 8:04 pm

^^ Just watched it today, It's really good, I definately enjoyed it. (Subaru's so cute and he's voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi :D ) The only thing I was annoyed about was a little case of False advertising...the cover says it's the prequel to X the movie...but I really don't see it...besides the fact that it features characters from X...

Anyways, any thoughts peoples? Who has seen it? Liked it? Hated it? Maybe a comment on the "prequel" part?

I liked it!

(Now I just have Samurai X Directors Cut Trust and Betrayal, Bubblegum Crisis Megatokyo, Saiyuki: Storms, the dvd of X and Record of Lodoss Wars left....wow, I buy too much stuff without enough time to watch anything...)

I remember watching Tokyo Babylon on the Action Channel, but I only saw the second episode. The animaton was pretty decent for its time, and the story was alright (there should be a TV series; it could be another Yami no Matsui :P ). You must have seen the subbed version, right? Because the dubbed version is HORRIBLE. Subaru sounded too much like Micheal Jackson, and Hokuto sounded VERY whiny and annoying. Overall, it's pretty decent.

Yes its all about the subbed version (especially with one of my fav voice actors KY)

Though actually Hokuto still comes off as whiny and annoying....she does that weird anime laugh thingy and is really clingy with Subaru....
The first episode is pretty cool...more gorey than the second one though...

*Sigh* The CLAMP fanboy in me rises yet again. :)

The manga (recently licensed by TokyoPop, yay!) *is* the prequel to X, since it sets up the entire relationship between Subaru and Seishiro, but the anime is much less so, being more episodic, self-contained stories.

I've got the original DVD, Ltd. release, and liked it a lot, though I didn't watch the dub. Did the CPM rerelease fix the weird dubtitle-like subs? I've been meaning to pick it up for a while, but lack of income has put buying new stuff on the shelf for a while.

Hmm....I don't really know what you're referring since I never saw the original...but the subbing doesn't seem bad.

It definitely reminded me of YnM in places. I can't speak for the prequel, though - I've never seen the X series, just the movie. But I did note the familiar characters. I don't know. I'm really not sure how I like Tokyo Babylon in relation to X (knowing the final end to the characters from the start), but by itself it was an odd and cute anime.
