What makes a movie "cult" statis?
I was watching a thing on Discovery channel talking about movies in general and it refered to both Evil Dead AND Matrix as "Cult Classics/Favorites". I thought for something to be a cult classic it had to be not embrassed by the masses.

I don't think either/any of those movies were embarrassed.MinnieMoose wrote:I was watching a thing on Discovery channel talking about movies in general and it refered to both Evil Dead AND Matrix as "Cult Classics/Favorites". I know Rocky Horror Picture show is a cult classic.

Hopfully my explination will make sense.
Instead of a million people(just a number for explination) liking Evil Dead. There would be 10,000 who are obsesed with it, ie. making a website, buying all 10 DVD's and merchindise, watching it everyday, etc...
Forming a "cult" to worship this movie.
Does that make sense? I haven't had pop tarts in two days and my body is beginning to fail me.

It can have a *huge* following if you're just talking numbers. But the following can only be 10% of the general population. Any more than that and it's just a popular movie. A cult classic only appeals to a small portion of the whole - something the normal public would frown at or raise eyebrows over. Like that 'House of a Thousand Corpses' movie (which my sister has, but I haven't seen yet) or something that just doesn't fit in with the usual popular movie types.
