What's so great is that Motemote doesn't realize this thread isn't about him so much as it is about MinnieMoose.

But it is about him. It's about the outsiders going too far when they insult the insiders. If Minnie gets banned, all new members are in danger of crossing the line as well. Something like this could easily do what Jace has in mind - make a change in the way the site is run with regards to banning people for flaming. If the mods start banning people because a group of old members want them gone, then yes, it effects everyone - especially Motemote since he seems to have gotten on the bad side of you guys pretty quickly.

Frankly if (his name shalt not be mentioned to keep this thread on topic) could get banned twice, these two and even including me should of been banned already.

Frankly, I think it's gonna boil down to a point where this forum is eventually gonna end up with a "Courtroom" section where the mod's investigate the person in question, presenting the evidence to Phade to where he shall make the final verdict. Laugh now but I don't doubt it could happen.

MinniMooses rant, though no real offence taken by MJ from what I saw, was pretty much a personal attack towards a matter that really didn't need to be brought into the public. The fact that people even bothered to continue the argument (egging Moose on) reminded me of the big Hatter argument, and I don't think Hatter would of even bothered over such a topic.

Does the forum need to get to the point where it has to be ruled with an iron fist? I'm sure if the MODs did their job more often than they do now, people would still be bitching at them.

This is assuming that the MODs will make more than one instance of letting the elders take charge, which I don't see happening very often. Furthermore, you cannot expect the MODs to just succumb to a regular poster or group of them, they are very level headed and collected individuals, refraining from making instant rash decisions.

They know just as well as we do that motemote doesn't deserve to get banned.

I may not like Motemote, infact I think i hate him, but like I said, if this was my forum I wouldn't have him banned.

This isn't the Salem Whitch Trials of 1692, we're not just throwing out names so we can see people perminently dismissed.

Meh, the salem witch trials were more about social status than wicca, but your analogy is sound. Its pretty good statistics though, out of 100 000+ members theres like.... 1 who's majorly pissing us off to the point of complaint. Unless I'm annoying too...

This goes really well with Jebadia's reference to a courtroom. But you can see where he'd want to jump on the discussion, right? One person gets banned, and it changes things. It's a disturbing thought. A bunch of newbies tiptoeing around because they could easily become the targets.

^_^ I know it isn't that extreme, and from what little I *did* catch, Minnie crossed the line enough for a temp ban. But one or two posts in the mods box, or even a private pm to phade would have been better than this public announcement.
