Live-action music videos are often all about effects. This "there must be a story" thing seems to be specific to AMVs; I'm not saying it's wrong, and I try to have at least some narrative in my own work, but I think there's also room for videos that are just visually cool.XenoDrake wrote:and again, here we have more examples of just why effects are a poision to AMV art.......

Well, they are very easy to gawk at. Personally, I totally missed whatever story was there, probably partially because I've never seen RahXephon.XenoDrake wrote:SS5_Majin_Bebi, did you even get the story in the AMV at all...i mean, really, or were you to busy gawking at the OMGWTF effects to even see it.
But, as Koronoru said, there is room for videos that are just visually cool and don't have stories to go with them... of course, that doesn't mean you have to like them. (I remember not liking Odorikuruu, for instance. But that might have been just the sheer annoyance factor of the song used...)

I agree with Xeno. I felt so bad for Koop after the explosion Euphoria got. He got so few responses that he actually liked. He was glad people liked it, but hardly anyone noticed the story. Those of us that talked with him on a regular basis during the time he was making it got the story immediately and I was blown away by it, but most people saw the effects and shit themselves.
Come back, Koop! We miss you! Free man secks!! :O

their is room for AMVs with no plot what so ever.

this is a perfect example, i love this AMV souly cuz it lives up to its creators promas of having no plot and being a totaly random action vid. i too like to just sit back and let my mind be taking to the limits of action packed, seizure causing histeria.
but Koops vid was not entended to do that, their is a very moving story in their, and no, you dont have to have seen the anime to get it. cuz i too have never seen RahXephon. but im an old school AMVer, and like the rest of us old fogies, i look at the footage and whats going on IN the footage. i supose this is where AMVers start splitting hairs over whats better, honestly i gave up on it. i like Koops vid, but i loathed it at first, i got over it, along with most of the others that threw in the towel when Euphoria hit the doughnut. im sure that what koop wants more then anything now, is someone to do something better. its lonly at the top, but ill do everything i can to try to get their myself, and this is what drives me to make AMVs better then the one before. its called a labor of love for a reason, cuz most of the people here are doing work that costs them more then thay weill ever make back.

your apsolutly right, live action music videos are all about action. the whole point is that, but (and this is just my personal view on it, so no offence intended) AMVs are the audio and video embobyment of fans connections to both the anime and the music, and are directly linked to how the two of them made you feel. if an AMV dosent reflect that clearly, and i stress this point. then it failed. this is why i consider Euphoria one big flop. it totaly failed to do what koop wanted it to, the meat, the apsolutly beuitful story in this AMV was compleatly lost on just about everyone that watched it. thos of us that did talk to him know what he went through when all he heard was prase over that stupid effect that took him 4 months to do with MSPaint, but that most people here could have done in a few hours with programs like photoshop. this cut him to the bone, cuz all people cared about was the amount of effort, or just the effects. no one would just step back and just watch it, see the story. this is why he is not here, i dont think he is gone, i still see him on AIM from time to time. i think he is just waiting for all us old fogies to come back, like he did.

I've never een seen RahXephon, but I picked up a fair bit of the storyline present in the video. The main guy, its a story about his relationship with the two chicks that you see onscreen a few times. I'm thinking something bad happens, coz theres a fair bit of crying happening in it. But yeah, first time I watched it, all I saw was the effects. Which is whay i watched it again and again and again... to see the story behind the effects. To see what the video was actually ABOUT!! I don't know if I got it right or not, but the effects aren't the only thing i see when I watch it now.XenoDrake wrote:SS5_Majin_Bebi, did you even get the story in the AMV at all...i mean, really, or were you to busy gawking at the OMGWTF effects to even see it.

You're prolly right but our way is more like drama.SSJVegita0609 wrote:I agree, poor Koop. I wrote Euphoria a massive op on why I liked it not only for the effects. But to be honest, I think he's laying low because college = hard.
