Well, I don't mind Dbz's dubs (for the latter part of the series especially), but the va's for the Super Anderoid 13 (?) movie were horrible! I mean, they gave the main villain a country accent, completely ruined what he was saying (suddenly he's giving a lesson on ethics or some crap - total weirdness), and it was just too funny all around. I can't watch any of it with a straight face once they open their mouths (the original version is fine - the dubbers had a little too much fun with it, though).
Earthian gets next up in my book - Kagetsuya comes off as a complete jerk. I mean, he wasn't exactly sweet to begin with, but the dubbed voice completely changes his character. He turns into some cold asshole. I lent the dvd to a friend and she watched the english dub and couldn't see why I liked him at all. It's like watching a completely different anime.
Yu Yu Hakusho is definitely high on my list as well. It's not *too* bad, but they really screwed things up with the pitch - Botan has a weird english accent that makes her seem like she's 30 (instead of sounding like a young somewhat ditsy teenager she's suddenly miss know-it-all mentor for the children). Kuwabara's not too bad, but way too deep. YYH just isn't the same without his high-pitched giggles and cries when he's around Yukina (squeals...he squeals with glee...). He sounds stupid in the dub. Kurama has a nice tone, intelligent and calm sounding, but that just screws things up - no change in voice when he goes youko (big disappointment). And Hiei is supposed to have the deepest voice of all of them - that just makes his character. He's the smallest, looks youngest, and that deep voice makes him who he is. They killed that. I just don't like what they did to the series at all.

Don't forget Android 15's voice...or should I say, Gary Coleman-botArigatomyna wrote:Well, I don't mind Dbz's dubs (for the latter part of the series especially), but the va's for the Super Anderoid 13 (?) movie were horrible! Anyways...my vote:
Aura Battler Dunbine (anyone who thinks Chris Sabat is the great Satan of anime needs to look into Carl Macek at some point...true, Funi's dubs aren't the best out there, but at least Sabat isn't an arrogant jack-off along with his craptacular dub jobs...
...Dammit Macek, why the Hell did you have to turn half of Byston Well into f---ing Lucky the f---ing leprechaun?)

Speaking of country accents, EVERY character had some fake-sounding accent in the Sonic movie...
I mean... ehoudfgh -has a seizure from the badness-

i liked the last half of dbz myself, as for the YYH dub i love it!!
vhd original sucked ass. bits of Trigun sucked. i didnt care for wolfwood either. Vash's voice was ok. im glad im not watching the Shaman King dub myself. G Gundam was iffy. Domon acted like a little baby half the time if he couldnt beat a villian. im not sure but he sounded like Gene's Starwinds voice almost and i guess thats why i can tolerate him.

never heard of that anime. what about Cyborg009. most of them sound like little whinny kids. i think the guy who plays Jet is in it. he plays the big black dude i think. i cant remember.DTJB wrote:Birdy the Mighty, no emotional expression from the male lead what-so-ever. Whoever provided that voice should be shot.

Actually, it got A LOT better, for about the first 10 or so eps of Slayers the dub is kinda of annoying, but by Slayers Next Id say without question its one of the best dubs, the actors really got into their characters at that points. I liked Linas english voice a lot more, I dunno why, I just didnt find Megumi Hayashibara has interesting to listen too.Gaikotsu wrote: And if I remember correctly, the Slayers dub is pretty awful too. As soon as I heard Lina's English voice doing the intro sequence, I had to change it back to Japanese. Although I did check back occasionally, and it didn't get much better.
