DDR3 4th Mix Track 12: "hubris"

Post by trythil » Sat Sep 27, 2003 6:18 pm

Zarxrax posted track 11, so I figured that I should post track 12.

The DDR3 premiere is about 4 hours from now, but hey, let's face it: at this point in time, if you're reading this AND going to the premiere then you only spoil yourself by watching the track.

Here's the link. Appearently a few people think this track doesn't suck as bad as I say it does.

-- Don't read below this line if you don't care. --

I could go on for a while about how "hubris" came to be the title of this track, but it would only make sense if you've seen Shamanic Princess. That, and the title's meaning is fairly self-evident if you HAVE seen the OVA, so ... yeah, not much worth in explaining things.

dwchang is also listed on this because he gave me two ideas that ended up working really nicely; everything else in the track is mine, so if you hate this thing, blame me, not him.

The local download is your standard 352x240 MPEG-1 file, which should be playable on everything from the latest spit-fire Athlon 64 to that computer in your pants. The direct download is a 704x480 DivX-compatible XviD video stream packed in a Matroska container, and also includes a few K of additional video notes and inside-my-festering-brain insights as a worthless but still tangible bonus. Read the video description for instructions on how to prep a Windows or UNIX(-like) machine for Matroska playback.

Yes, I am a Matroska pimp. Booyah.

The Shamanic Princess R1 DVD actually looks really nice (especially considering that it's got 300-ish minutes of material crammed onto it), and a significant portion of the track is CG, which isn't subject to problems from repeated reencoding and recompression (except that RGB -> YUV conversion).

I also filtered the online distro version quite a bit with xsharpen and Tweak()ed the thing to boost saturation by 135%. In my experience xsharpen doesn't normally look all that good on anime -- it's much more suited to photos and live-action footage -- but I found Shamanic Princess to be an exception. Don't quite know why yet, but it did look neat.
