Uploading Help

Post by A.H. » Wed Sep 24, 2003 10:29 pm

Nothing like a total n00b question for my very first post. :?

OK, simple question: How do I test the upload? It says to test it by clicking on the name of the video, but it's not even a link. Just plain old text. Do I have to wait?

Wow, thanks so much.

Bah, 2 weeks for a local download/upload? Now I gotta be patient.

Lol, you have pics from my best friend's site in there (2 2 5). :P

A.H., do not just leech off of the Donut for your hosting. Send a donation in (you get past the two barrier then within a couple of days). Even if you send in only $1, it'll be worth it.

Well my fellow St. Louisian, I'd be more than happy to donate, say $20, to the org. (I never really spend my money on much anyway, so 20 bucks is no skin off my back.) It's my parents. They're opposed to the whole AMV thing in general, "wasting hours upon hours on the computer". I can picture their reaction when I ask them if I can pay money so I can host my videos quicker. I'm only 15, you know. I've been making AMVs without costing me a cent so far. My parents are firm believers in working with what you've got.

So if I were to send cash through the mail, it would have to be in secret. I don't think they would notice. But since the site says it's not a good idea to send cash through the mail, I'm reluctant to do so.

You haven't spent one cent for making your AMVs? It's against the Org's rules to use footage that you do not own (hence downloaded footage), and/or songs that you have downloaded. That's all. There's no real way to force it yet, so you're probably okay. Once you get some low opinions on your videos, you'll probably reconsider using downloaded footage and songs.

Also you should ask your parents for the money, because it's not really righteous to go and steal money, especially $20. Another thing is you're 15 years old, so it's actually legal for you to work with a school permit (although the only places that would hire at such an early age are grocery stores like Dierberg's and Schnucks).

Nice to find out there's another person living the bi-state area. Garylisk is also an AMV creator from around here. I've been thinking of sending out a little message to all of the AMV creators in the area for a little viewing of our AMVs. Any interest? Where do you live, BTW?

Ah, benefit of the doubt, friend, benefit of the doubt.

You can make vids without spending money if your parents buy the dvds and cds for you, so don't assume he uses downloaded footage/audio until you see the vids. And he didn't say he had no money - just that his parents have a say in what he spends his money on. Because he's a minor. ^_~

Funny you mention that. You're right about the ownership thing, which is why my first video on the org is also my first video that wasn't "stolen". My friend has a friend has all 6 episodes of FLCL, then my friend ripped them from him, then I copied them from my friend. So it's all good. And yes, I read the line when I read the Agreement Terms: "Thou shall not use footage from the vids to make AMVs".

I made about 8 other vids purely from Kazaa downloads. But now, I'm done with that. Kazaa has permanently fried my computer. (It took me about 45 minutes just to get online to make this very message.) Tomorow, a computer whiz from my Mom's workplace is coming to my house to cleanse the computer of everything as if it were brand new. (ME sucks.) I've just got to save all my vids to a disk. That's proving to be easier said than done, though. (Which reminds me, I got a question for anybody with a Windows Media Player 9. There's a tab on the left that says "Copy to CD or Portable Device". I thought I could use this to burn, but it only seems to be able to copy one vid at a time. Someone know what to do here?)

I don't know where I'm going from there, though. Without Kazaa, the only option is to buy the Anime DVDs. But they won't do me any good, since my ME has no DVD drive. (I even tried ripping the opening sequences to my Armored Core PS2 games, since they're DVD disks. The computer wouldn't even recognize a disk in the drive.)

Sephiroth: You misunderstand. I wasn't talking about stealing money from my parents. I mean using my own money.

As far as a job, there's pretty much no place around where I live that accepts 15-year-olds for hire. So I'm gonna wait for 16. (I'm making $10 a week from house chores anyway, and I just got a $3000 [Yes, you read the right number of zeros.] check from my Grandma, but that was for my "car fund".)

I live in Ballwin/Ellisville.

Good luck with the computer stuff. I put you on my AIM list, so I can talk to you whenever. You can put me on yours too, so you can get to me. I live in Ballwin. I'm guessing you go to Marquette High School? Well, I work at Dierberg's down Clarkson RD. I'm thinking of quitting actually, so I can recommend you for a job there. It's boring and crappy work (pushing carts and bagging groceries), but it brings in some money. I'm a Senior at Marquette @_@, hence my wacky schedule is I only go there for hours 1 and 2. But yeah, nice talking to you and I contact you on AIM sometime.
