Yeah really... it doesn't have all that much to do with effort. I think it would be silly to type out "laughing out loud" or "laughing my ass off" everytime you wanted to express laughter without using the repetetive "haha" or "hehe."

It really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm chatting, I'll use the quick LOL, and WTF, but I rarely get that excited. :?

I do type how I speak, and since I tend to ramble, it makes my sentences drag out quite a bit. But I can do the 'grammatically correct' route most of the time without straining a braincell. My biggest problem is that I type too quickly and I tend to miss my typos a lot. If I'm ranting at someone (a well thought-out debate, mind you), I'll proofread my posts. Otherwise, it gets sent just the way I wrote it. I figure it's easy enough to understand, but I don't go out of my way to be perfect. I'm too lazy for that. As for the little emoticons, heck, I still use my fanfiction ones more than anything: ^_^ ^_~ Those two are indispensible. And my favorites here (since we don't have one that looks from side to side in a fit of paranoia) would be :? - can't beat those.

Yeah, it doesn't really have that much to do with effort, I just like to write like I speak. I think another reason would be that I try to be different in what I type instead of doing what everyone else is doing by typing the same abbreviations each time. Also, say a newbie is reading this stuff and s/he's never been on a message board or forum before. If that person sees all these LMAO's everywhere and they have no idea what it might mean, they're obviously thinking, HUH?!?
Probably too busy to be here right now.

You should go to mirc..
it scares me, too much accrinims and the majority of them represent some form of insult.

Chatrooms have become the haven for morons who yell at each other and exchange perverted challenges and where horny guys can try to chat up slutty girls. Hrm, fun...

My grammers pretty bad, specially since I do write alot. Short stories and training packages and the sort. Only really problem I got into was when sending a technical support email to someone I accidently said 'nya' on the end of it.

Well, grammar is supposed to be descriptive of how you put words together into sentences and so on, rather than prescripting how you're supposed to do it. Grammar isn't supposed to tell you what to do. Most of the grammatical 'rules' are made up by English teachers to try and get you to write legible, sensible things, and aren't really rules. They're just guidelines
"A creator needs only one enthusiast to justify him." - Man Ray
"Restrictions breed creativity." - Mark Rosewater

A Freudian slip is where you say one thing, but mean your mother.

This is true. I'm taking a course in descriptive/grammarian's grammar right now.

Still, a standard is fairly important. You gotta be able to know what they're talking about heh.

In general though, it's true that the present prescriptive grammar is stuck in the 18th century.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
