I think it would actually be kind of neat to have footage from one of my AMVs ripped off.
Since most of it is excessively digitally manipulated anyway, it'd be pretty obvious where it was from.
The plan is as follows:
1) Feel flattered.
2) Laugh at the idiot who actually thought my AMV was worth ripping off of.
3) Bitch about it on the .org.
4) ???
5) Profit!!!

Well, good point about driving financially challanged AMV creators (like me... $45 canadian a monoth doesn't amount to much when I gotta pay for lunch at school with that....) away... and guys, I know people go through a lot of hard work to create an AMV, and to have that work taken and used the way it is can be very VERY annoying... but think about it, if the person's justusing raw clips from your video, and they use some other source as well, you shouldn't go insane about it, maybe they have problems gettnig video to use, so they take a few clips from a vid they downloaded... have you people ever thought about how hard it is for someone with say, 10 GB hard drive, sharing the comp with other people, and dialup internet to get something like Puni Puni Poemi? the only video of it I've seen other than AMV video is fuckin HUGE (about 330 MB and 240 MB for each episode)... who the hell in their right mind with a shared comp is going to DL that with dialup? (i'm lucky, i have a 30 GB drive and high speed internet, but that doesn't mean that people are always going to have comps as good as what I even have?)
[/rant]
And not to mention "Immitation is the highest form of flattery"...
Ok, I'm done...
I hope....

How about buying the DVD? Hell, get the bootleg, and then support ADV when they release it in the US. If people rip footage from other people's AMVs, you're getting to the point where the footage quality is going to get worse and worse and worse:bobbias wrote:have you people ever thought about how hard it is for someone with say, 10 GB hard drive, sharing the comp with other people, and dialup internet to get something like Puni Puni Poemi? the only video of it I've seen other than AMV video is fuckin HUGE (about 330 MB and 240 MB for each episode)... who the hell in their right mind with a shared comp is going to DL that with dialup? DVD --> Bought and ripped by Editor #1 --> Edited into video --> Video encoded for distro --> AMV downloaded by Asshat --> Loaded into Windows Movie Maker --> Raped for scenes --> Footage is compressed yet again...
Etc etc etc. Yes, I am making a rash generalization about WMM editors, but if downloading fansubs and using them in AMVs steals from the companies that release the show, then downloading AMVs steals from the editor who's shelled out cold hard cash for the DVDs. Furthermore, if they're downloading really well encoded AMVs and using those clips, then that AMV maker put *time* and *effort* into the compression.
My entire ass. If somebody wants to download my two Evangelion videos and use clips from them, they can cut me a check to help cover the $200 I've spent on the DVDs.bobbias wrote: And not to mention "Immitation is the highest form of flattery"...
As far as moderation is concerned, I propose this: all "Remakes", "tests", and otherwise alternate versions are removed from the Donut. All videos that admit to taking footage from other AMVs or using digisubs are removed from the Donut. I hardly think that's too much to ask for.

Hm...didn't some of those famous amvs use digisubbed footage. I could have sworn that came up the last time someone (me) suggested getting rid of vids that use fansubbed/downloaded material. No one wants to see their favorite 'all-time great' amvs get thrown away because the creator used an anime that was only available via fansub/download. I don't think they'll change their mind on that anytime soon.dokool wrote:As far as moderation is concerned, I propose this: all "Remakes", "tests", and otherwise alternate versions are removed from the Donut. As for remasters (by Phade's definition as merely an upgrade in footage) are already supposed to be replacing vids rather than taking up an extra spot - just report those and they'll be taken care of. Remakes (by Phade's definition as a redone concept with considerable changes in footage and layout) are another matter as individually different vids that merely share a concept and/or anime-song combination.
Now, duplicates to distribute different file types (avi, mpg, dial-up) just need to be reported and they'll be taken down. And vids that admit to plaigerising other vids probably *will* be taken down if you report them. I don't know if this is a guideline or a rule, but it takes the "don't use downloaded footage" guideline to a whole new level. I'm sure if someone stole footage from one of Caldwell's vids, or from Euphoria, the vid would be taken down immediately. Fairplay demands the same go for any amv that steals footage and admits to it.

Dokool, lemme ask you something.
What if the footage is not released yet, and you need it? Fansubs.
Take for example, Koop's "Euphoria" (I'm not trying to beat the bandwagon here, I'm trying to make a point, so bare with me)
It's in the top two or three videos here on the org. Rahxephon region 2 DVDs are $52 USD a piece. Do you think Koop is going to spend nearly $550 ($470 + international shipping) USD on Rahxephon for one video? I don't think so. Koop used fansubs and made the footage look good, and his video is good, regardless of what you think. By your logic, you want Euphoria taken down because Koop could not afford $550 worth of footage, but paid $12-$20 for a CD? Bullshit, absolute bullshit.
Your opinion doesn't matter. Phade is not going to regulate the Doughtnut rules of uploading and ban videos that use fansubs (that actually look good at 640x480, mind you).
On anoter note,
Why should somebody pay you for footage? That's plain bullshit. I agree that stealing footage from somebody else's video is bad, but stealing unediting footage isn't as bad as stealing footage with effects.
And, what, in gods name, is this line for?
"As far as moderation is concerned, I propose this: all "Remakes", "tests", and otherwise alternate versions are removed from the Donut."
That's bullshit right there. Somebody who totally re-edited a video that he though was bad (hence, remastering it) can't upload their new version under a new catalogue entry? What...the....hell. So you're telling me, that because I remaded by "Deluxe Bebop" video, "Deluxe Bebop Remastered Edition", I can't upload it under the entry "Deluxe Bebop Remastered Edition" because it's a remake of an old video?

If you can't afford it, don't make the fucking video until you can afford it. Is the concept of "waiting" so alien to you people that you are incapable of coming up with this plan on your own?
I cooled my heels making game vids until I could get a DVD drive, and continue to wait to get source most of the time, and make what I can out of what I have. This is how it works, people. It isn't hard. All this endless whining about not being able to afforrrrrrrd things is extremely irritating. If you can't figure out "WAIT TILL YOU CAN AFFORD IT," I'm sorry, you're probably too dense to put together a video anyway.

If you upload a "Remastered Edition," then the original edition should be deleted from the GD sever. That's hardly unreasonable.Phade wrote: You may upload one video file per video. This means that you can’t have an MPG versions and a RM version and an AVI version and an “I’m not quite done” version and an “Ok, I’m done” version. You get to have one “official” version of the video uploaded. Once the file is uploaded and confirmed, the file cannot be replaced or removed.
As far as using fansubs, I can see your point on how works such as Euphoria can actually make fansub footage look good, especially when the R1 isn't out yet. However, using fansubs for series that have long been out is still inexcusable, as Sarah brings up. If you can't afford the DVD, then wait until you can.
