hhhmm.. downloaded footage...

hhmm..

How else would the person get the footage if this person didn't download the videos and use that footage from those downloaded videos? Wouldn't that be considered downloaded footage...? :?

One problem is, who's going to donate their time to watch everything that comes down the pike and vote yes or no? And put up with the inevitable bitching from people who don't make the cut? And is it fair to go with one person's individual tastes?

I would like higher quality too, but it's a very slippery problem to actually police something this size and so based on subjective criticism.

I personally think that there should be a set minimum donation to upload to the server, but no minimum to download. My opinion is $20-50 a year for upload, it beats the living fuck out of paying $30 for outside hosting, and keeps the "I'll upload one shitty video and drop off the face of the earth because I didnt like the opinions I was given" people to a minimum.

I meant $30 A MONTH for outside hosting that has set bandwidth and storage limits.

Personally I preferred the $5 per each video upload a month(with a max of 5 vids) and 5 USD per video per vid (5+ vids uploaded).

Infringing copyright in the USA can get you shut down.

Infringing copyright in the USA and charging money for it can get you shut down and sent to Federal prison for a number of years.

There's a good point.

Personally, while it makes more financial sense, it seems to sort of defeat the purpose of the org as the ultimate AMV collection.

So, unless I see Phade issue something that says that the org is in desperate need of money, I see no cause for that. If he does, I'll just donate somethng immideately, as I hope would others.

I think you are all blowing this all out of porportion. Way, way out of porportion. My boy Preacher3380x used AMV footage for his first few AMV's. They were practice, of course, but the fact of the matter remains- who cares where the footage comes from? If it 'uz footage like tranceparencies addigital effects an shit, like from my AMV's... I'd prolly get a bit of an injured kitty about the whole deal, but raw footage? C'mon, cut 'em a break.

And in regards to contributions to the GD... If i could afford a contribution on my $80 a month budget, i would... I haven't yet uploaded my vids, either, so I guess that counts for something...

Nestorath, I think you're missing the point. Cannibalizing other people's AMVs and claiming the work as your own is nothing short of plagiarism. You're taking another editor's hard work and stealing it. And that pisses people off to no end. Even if the clip in question had nothing done to it timing-wise (highly unlikely), the original editor still spent the time ripping and encoding it. And to take their hard work and claim it as your own is wrong.

If you're going to cannibalize AMVs for practice, keep those creations in your sock drawer.

And no, I don't think making donation mandatory for upload to the Donut is the answer. It defeats the whole point of the service: to provide free (or at least very cheap) hosting to creators who otherwise can't afford it on their own. Making donation mandatory (especially something like $50 a year) will only drive financially challenged creators away.
