I still want to know how you managed to encode a DivX video to look so good without the file being incredibly massive. Did you use any custom settings?

That's cause it wasn't encoded in DivX, it was an XviD encode with the options set so it was DivX4 compatible, and thus the DivX playback filters can handle it (it's like if you made a really fast train but kept the wheels the same guage so they can still use normal tracks).

XviD is great. :D You should check out some of my latest XviD encodes - my Cowboy Blues one is only 23MB for a 4.2 minute video, and it's in 480x360 in awesome quality.

Or my new Soul of an Angel encode, although that one's still very big but it's high res and supergood quality.

Xvid is still in alpha testing though, isn't it? I've seen some good encodes with it, but the codec's still under heavy development

That sounds almost too good to be true. Where can I get a copy of that program? ^v^

In regards to using footage from one AMV to make another, my outlook on it is that you should obviously get the original AMV maker's permission first. And if you're gonna disregard that, then at LEAST try not to make it look obvious.

I've made an AMV using another AMV before, but I obtained permission before using parts of it.

For my theater arts class final, the teacher assigned us to basically do a visual 'reflection' of the class using whatever medium we choose. I chose to use music videos as my medium. I asked Tim Park if I could use his 'Right Now' AMV as a template, using footage from it if nessesary. He kindly gave his blessing. About 70% of the finished AMV had new footage, and the rest was from Tim Park's original AMV with modified captions. Also, I stole about 7 seconds of footage from Maboroshi's "Far and Away" AMV for it, since I didn't have any copies of Kare Kano yet. Didn't really bother to ask permission since only 3 people were ever going to see the AMV; me, my teacher, and Tim.

When I showed the finished AMV to the teacher, I not only got an 'A' on the final, the teacher gave it so many extra credit points that it rocketed me from a 'C' to an 'A' for the entire seimester.

I would email bomb anyone who "clipped" footage from any of FtR...

That series is probably the "key to my soul" as an amv editor. The fun, the excitement, the "fanservice", the seizures, some drama, comedy, EVERYTHING!! Everything I love about amvs exists in "Feel the Rhythm".

Footage is fine, but if I see any effects using the SAME footage/effects timing as any of my vids (direct/blatant obvious ripoffs that prove no creativity whatsoever), heh, let's just hope I don't find that person's ip from my college cpu or his email address. (I've known to be very vengeful should something offend me personally...)

Though we can't say amvs our "ours" in rights or owning, amvs are works of free art. Art for display. Nobody with respect / manners would do something such as what's been mentioned here. To steal someone's painting and call it there own is pretty much the same as stealing an amv someone spent several weeks of time to make.

In other words, such assholes these amv thieves be.

"It's not their own, they're stealing from the companies". Let's see these f**kers try to make their own videos when they realize they've been branded as losers... (and when they try to work with a hacked cpu and several email bombings from random locations throughout America...)

Great job xstylus. You did the "correct" thing, though I'd have to say that 7 seconds of footage is still alot. Some people spend 3 hours on 3 seconds of footage. (that's something I don't understand too well though...) Asking permission is fine. Saying, "I made all of it" is not...

Go to http://www.xvid.org You can get info there. They have the source code, and should have links to the videos. As for small file sizes like that? You can get that with DivX. If your vids are in only 320x240 res, Real Player 9 Codec can get amazing quality for the size (I usually max out at 240x160 for that though - since I only use it for my lq codecs.)
