Suggestion : Skating style score calcs ?

Post by bakeneko » Wed Aug 13, 2003 9:25 am

Just a thought -- to calc Op category scores the way they judge skating competitions, where you throw out the top and bottom score then calculate the average.

Just a thought...

Understandable if the scores were stupidly high or stupidly low.. but what if they are all fine? I agree something that knocks out the stupid ops (all 1's or all 10's and a monosylable comment) but people would get narky about losing that 10's review. And what if the vid truely deserved such a high/low score?

If they're all fine ... that would imply that they were all 'in line.' So if you're getting all 8-10s in a category, you'd average out to 9. But if you get a couple of 9s or 10s, then someone gives you a 2, that drops your average down to 6 or 7.

Not that this happened to me or anything

It does require that you get 3 ops before having meaningful op scores ... which isn't a bad thing in my opinion anyway. If your video deserves all 10s, then more than one person should be willing to say so, no?

Also, out of curiosity, is there any kind of incentive for writing ops? I write ops because I'm a critical bastard.

Well, just a few random thoughts. Pay no attention to the mad man behind the curtain ...

Last I heard, the ratings were calculated on an olympic scale - meaning the high and low scores are dropped by default. But I could have read it wrong... :?

And the incentive to write ops is mostly personal - I do it to help people who *ask* for reviews, and because I like to repay people who made amvs that I downloaded and watched - if I like a vid, the least I can do is thank the person who made it. ^_^

Heh, I *thought* Phade had mentioned that when he was talking about the new requirements for the top 10 list. ^_^

You do? Hmm. I've got 3 ops on the single measely vid I've published so far, and those scores do not reflect olympic style score calculations.

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... d_id=20985

(not sure if all 3 ops are visible)

Orig was scored 4, 7, 8 (yes, it deserves lower, I know). So by OSSC, that should be a 7. According to the averages box, it's 6.33.

Cap was 10,9,9, so it should be 9. Quoth the average box: 9.33.

And so on. So it doesn't look like that's the case. ?

The scoring comes into effect once the vid has 8 reviews and is entered into the top 10 list. I think the scores on the individual pages reflect an average of *all* scores - but for the top lists you get the high and low factored out to make it more 'reasonable' and 'standard.' :?

OIC. Thanks for clearing that up!

Sorry for the extended thread about a non-issue.
