To Go Original or not To Go Original that is the question?

Post by genestarwind21122 » Wed Jul 30, 2003 6:14 pm

In AMV reviews people complain that the video isn't original so you decide to go with a song never used before and decent for the most part but never heard of before unless you listen to that band. So then you make a video with that song and people complain that the song doesn't fit there type of music. So what are you suppose to do. Do you go with well known songs eventhough that isn't original or do you go with songs that are known only if youlisten to that band. If you go original with the song you get points there but reviewablity is lowered. So in either case it is a win lose situation. So let me know what you think and how this stuff should be handled to statisfy both sides.

Gene my man go with what you like, if you try to please the masses you will not please nobody, and you will not please yourself. Even tho I may not like a song someone used to a certain anime, I will put that aside and see if they matched up lyrics with action, and what not, if you pan an AMV for the musical content thats pretty weak.

...actually, I agree with Dead_Pool. Also, I'd like to mention that there's more to "originality" than just using unused bands/songs/anime. There are also concepts, but people tend to ignore that because it takes actual thought to rate. ;)

I agree with both of you it is in what way you used the anime. So why isn't obvious to everyone else. I just wanted to get your op on it. Because I enjoy making videos I will continue on making them. I can't help it that I know great scenes and ways to make amv's to creed but if that what takes then so be it.

I'm always for being Original in both song/anime choice. However, I'm lucky enough to have music tastes that nobody has heard of...

i normally try thinking up of an original or lesser used concept then coming up with a song and anime i can do with it.

also keep in mind, it is very possible to have an original video to an overused anime/song combo. even a linkin ball z vid can be originial. (getting more unlikly these days) but it is possible for someone to come up with a completly new concept that will blow peoples minds.

Just keep in mind that if you're worried about what other people think, originality isn't really liked as well as we all say. If a vid is too original, chances are people won't understand it. Or, worse, it's never been done before because no one wants to see it done. I've seen a few cases of this - I didn't think they were bad, but the general consensus was - yeah it's original because no one in their right mind would *do* that. Then again, if you're being original in song or anime (or heaven forbid both), you may not get any viewers. So if you're worried about what people think - be original to a point but stay in the mainstream. If you don't give a damn and you make videos for yourself - do whatever your creative mind comes up with and have fun with it. ^_^

Being Original Means that you have a good idea that actually works.. not using new music or new anime... Example,

Most Linkin Park DragonballZ Videos < ---- Not orignal

Meri's Trunks Tribute video Also to linkin park <----- Orignal

And by the way, not EVERYONE is gonna like your video anyway, theres always gonna be that one person who doesnt like the song or anime.

Dont try so hard to please everyone, just do what you like, and do it well.

Go with what you feel man. I tried righout the gate and have had mixed reviews of my vid, but if there's something that you see in your song/anime combination that you would like others to see, share the vision. Don't let what crowds do influence you. I've been debating the same thing this past year sending out my vid and such, but came to the conclusion that I won't let popularity (or lack thereof) decide what works I want to share with audiences.
